November Principal Update

Hi Silver Knights!

It’s November and we have so much to be THANKFUL for!

  • I’m thankful for November 11, Veterans Day! We stand UKnighted and appreciative of our veterans, family members of veterans, and those that have sacrificed for this great nation and our way of life. We had a great Veterans Day assembly on 11/11, invited veterans and their families to our event, and were really intentional about honoring those in our community that served/are serving in the military. Feel free to watch the assembly recording here and view our program flyer.
  • I’m thankful for SHS - the students, families, and community! Severance is an amazing place founded on values and principles that are tried and true; principles that will withstand the test of time.
  • I’m thankful to the Severance, Windsor, and West Greeley communities that UKnighted to pass the Bond/Mill Levy! This is significant for Weld RE-4 as a whole and really great for Severance. SHS currently has almost 100 students over our maximum building capacity and we are only growing in enrollment. Passing this bond will result in much-needed classroom space, and a CTE – Career and Technical Education building that will be state of the art for Ag, Welding, Construction, Family and Consumer Sciences including culinary and catering classes, and more!
  • I’m thankful for the fun, busy, and sometimes chaotic end of the fall semester! Here’s the remaining schedule for students and families: Thanksgiving break (11/19-11/27), 2 weeks of classes (11/28-12/9), finals week (12/12-12/15 with no school for students Friday, 12/16), and Christmas break (Friday, 12/16 – Monday, 1/2). With that said, we still have a lot /of teaching and learning to accomplish this semester. TODAY is the day for students to work on getting caught up on any missing assignments or low grades that may result in having to retake a semester of content. Please reach out to classroom teachers and/or counselors regarding any questions about grades or credits. There is some fun, food, and family time on the horizon during our upcoming breaks, and we are going to UKnight to finish the semester strong!
Lastly, if you have not had a chance to provide feedback on the following items, please do so. Your input is valuable as we build a solid foundation at SHS!
  • SILVER acronym - PARENT survey or STUDENT survey
  • Honor those that Serve” or “Freedom Wall” survey - I brought this idea to SHS and it is similar to the “Freedom Shrine” in the main entrance at Windsor Middle School. This will be a way Severance High School honors those that serve, i.e. military, police, and firefighters.
  • Would you like to take a more active role in our mission by participating in our PTAC – Parent/Teacher Advisory Committee or SAC – School Accountability Committee? If you would like to volunteer, please contact Tyleigh Long, administrative assistant, at or 970-833-7111. Our next back-to-back meetings will be Tuesday, November 29th from 6-6:30pm (PTAC) and 6:30-7:00pm (SAC) at SHS.

Looking for your feedback!

  • Please provide feedback on our SILVER acronym by taking this short PARENT survey or STUDENT survey.
  • What are your thoughts on creating an "Honor those that Serve" or "Freedom Wall" at SHS? This idea is similar to the "Freedom Shrine" in the main entrance at Windsor Middle School, and can be a way that Severance High School honors those that serve, i.e military, police, firefighters. This project is being lead by student leaders in our Leadership class as part of our upcoming Veteran's Day activities. Please share any feedback through this form.

Do you or someone you know need a SCHOLARSHIP?

Last year, thanks to donor generosity, 150 scholarships were awarded through the Foundation, totaling in excess of $815,00.

Do you know someone who should apply? Please feel free to send along this message.

The process takes a few hours to complete, but the main application is then used for many of the available scholarships, making the process easier for students. And, special note, we have scholarships available for graduating seniors, current college students, AND non-traditional students.

Here's to the good future of students in Weld seeking higher education!

We are so excited to welcome back our amazing Silver Knights staff! We would love to show them our support all throughout the year by providing a variety of snacks in their break room. Please join us in this simple act of appreciation that they will enjoy any time they just need a little something....:)

We have around 85 staff members and the snack sign-up dates are set at every two weeks. Bring however many snacks you feel inclined to share. Partner with a friend or a group if you would like to! Office staff or parent volunteers will re-stock the jars and baskets with any overflow snacks throughout the two weeks as needed.

You may sign up for a date below and bring your snack donations to the SHS front desk on that day. Ideas could include: fresh fruits or veggies, granola bars, individual chip/pretzel/cracker/cookie packs, dried fruit bars or snacks, beef jerky, popcorn packs, mints, gum, seasonal fun treats. Please bring items that are NUT FREE just for ease of everyone's enjoyment. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
