It's Semifinals week Part I for EHT Idol! The Multicultural Club would like to thank you all for your support by voting and posting in your Google Classrooms. Our students in AP Art History recently had the opportunity to visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art on a field trip. It was a wonderful experience for them to explore and appreciate various artworks.
We would like to recognize and appreciate the efforts of our Greenery Students who did an amazing job beautifying the garden beds outside. With the guidance of Master Gardener Patty Dorr-Lewin and Lisa Mell, our students showcased their talent and creativity.
We would like to congratulate high school student Matthew DiTizio for winning third place in a statewide music competition aimed at raising awareness of substance use prevention efforts. Please CLICK HERE to read the full article in the Press of Atlantic City and learn more about Matthew's achievement. Great job, Matt!
Recently, our Latin students took the Medusa Exam, sponsored by the American Classical League. This is an opportunity for students worldwide to demonstrate their enthusiasm and excellence in the field of Greco-Roman mythology. This challenging exam, with a changing theme each year, encourages students to pursue the study of mythology and gain a richer understanding of the ancient world. We are proud to announce that our students achieved remarkable results in this year's exam, earning 20 gold medals, 17 silver medals, 15 magna cum laude, and 13 cum laude. Well done, students!
Our Honors Algebra II students had a fantastic opportunity to attend an Aviation Day at ACCC. With teachers Ms. Harris and Ms. Clark, the students participated in various workshops, including reading sectional charts, testing an air traffic control simulator, flying drones, and exploring other aspects of aviation. It was an eye-opening experience that showcased the wide range of career possibilities in the field.
Ms. Worrell with the Holocaust and Genocide students took a trip to the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C. This visit provided them with a valuable opportunity to learn about and reflect upon the events of the Holocaust, ensuring that we remember and honor the victims.
Students from Mrs. Carmella's, Ms. Bauer's, and Mrs. Delaney's science classes had an enriching experience during their visit to the EHT Nature Reserve. They learned about the area's history and the ongoing efforts to restore its natural state. Through engaging activities related to environmental and ecological sciences, the students gained valuable insights into the natural world.
Our Unified Track team recently had a meet against Cedar Creek Monday. We would like to congratulate Melia Brown for winning silver in the long jump and 100m and Jayden Mixon for winning gold in the shot put, 400m, and 100m. Additionally, Melia, Jayden, Hunter Bailey, and Ryan Feliciano achieved gold in the 4 x 100. We are also excited to announce that the Egg Harbor Township Police Department joined us for “Cornhole with Cops”, where our Unified students had the opportunity to interact and play cornhole with the officers. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the PD for their support and involvement.
We also have lots of great achievements and milestones happening in the athletic arena. Congratulations to our softball team for winning the Cape Atlantic League (C.A.L.) after defeating St. Joe. Our boys crew team made it to the semifinals in the varsity 8 at the Stotesbury Regatta and finished 6th, while the girls lightweight team made the finals and placed 5th. Kudos to Amari Pinkett, who became the C.A.L. Champion in the 400 hurdles with a personal record time of 1:06.66. The Boys Track Team also participated in the C.A.L. championships with Mike Simeon winning the Shot Put and Sean Dever winning the Javelin. We would also like to recognize Juliana Duggan, a 9th grader, for becoming the C.A.L. Champion in golf for females. Congratulations to the Boys Volleyball team for becoming C.A.L. Co-champions by defeating Oakcrest. In baseball news, Cam Flukey has broken the single-season record with 83 strikeouts and Joey Velardi has broken the career stolen base record, stealing an impressive 46 bases throughout his high school baseball career. Finally, our Boy Tennis team had a thrilling match on Wednesday and emerged victorious with a score of 3-2 against Atlantic City. It was a hard-fought competition, and our team demonstrated their skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship to secure the win. We are proud of all our student-athletes!
Next week, we will conduct our annual Mock Car Crash assembly for our seniors. This important event is coordinated with and made possible by AtlantiCare EMS, New Jersey State Police, Adams-Perfect funeral home, Egg Harbor Township Emergency Services (Police, Fire, and Rescue), Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office, and Atlantic County Medical Examiner's Office. The purpose of the assembly is to remind students of the dangers and consequences of unsafe driving behaviors such as drinking and driving, texting while driving, and not wearing seat belts.
On Thursday, June 1, the high school students will follow an abbreviated schedule for the prom. It is mandatory for students attending the prom to be present for all of their classes that day. Please note that early sign-outs and late arrivals will not be permitted for prom attendees. The Red Carpet will begin promptly at 4:30 in the HS auditorium and conclude at 5:30. The doors for the prom open at 6 p.m. at Harrah's Convention Center. Students must arrive by 7 p.m. or they will not be admitted.
This is a reminder that the Egg Harbor Township School District will be closed on Monday, May 29, 2023, in observance of Memorial Day. Classes will resume on Tuesday, May 30th. On this day, we take the opportunity to reflect and express gratitude to those who have served our country. #DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
If you'd like more information on #Day1, please go to: https://tylerclementi.org/day1/
