April 29, 2021

Parents,

You may have heard through social media that we can begin using playground equipment. It's true! Students will be able to play outside with masks off based on the latest SCDHEC and CDC guidance regarding Covid 19 transmission. If you have concerns about this and want your child to continue wearing a mask, please contact your child's teacher to let him or her know that and we will follow up.

I am so proud to be the principal of Pee Dee Elementary! For the 4th year in a row we have a teacher who has made it to the top 5 in our district for Teacher of the Year! We've had 2 district teachers of the year, 1 a state finalist. Did you know there are 58 schools in our district and just under 3,000 certified teachers?! That says a LOT about the instructional talent of the teachers working with our students. Join me in congratulating Caroline Kelly, 4th grade teacher, for making it to the top 5 for 2021-22 school year.

May 3-7 is teacher appreciation week. We LOVE books at PDE, so we are going to celebrate using If You Give a Mouse a Cookie as a theme. If you are not familiar with this book, let us share it with you!

If You Give a Mouse a Cookie

Your child will be bringing home some papers that he or she can use to recognize and thank the teacher. Have fun with it and know that teachers really appreciate it when students and parents take time out to say thank you and "good job!" Thank you for taking time out to celebrate the work our teachers do.

You should have received an email earlier this week for a parent survey. Your responses will be reflected on our school report card and will help us reflect on our service to you. Thank you to those of you who have already completed the survey. If you have not already, please take 5 minutes to share your opinion about our school.

Just a reminder that Child Development registration is now open. We would love to have a full house of 4 year olds! Start here if you have a child who will be 4 by September 1.

You can still purchase a yearbook online at www.strawbridge.net online code FMYB100427. They are $25. You can also send cash or a check to school to purchase. This one will be really special and is really well done. You don't want to miss the opportunity to capture this historical year.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email or call. The school number is 843-397-2579. We feel blessed to be able to serve your children and you.

Respectfully,

Chris Plowman, principal
