Board Commendations
The Board commended Boerne ISD students and staff, as well as celebrated district-wide honors. Below are some of the honorees.

2022 Holiday CardsWe congratulated the 2022 Boerne ISD Holiday Card Art Contest Winners! Every school in Boerne ISD participated in the contest with the district receiving hundreds of submissions. The submissions were narrowed down to 12 campus winners, one from each school. The 2022 Holiday Card Campus Winners are:
The Elementary Division Winner is: Abigail Link, FORES The Secondary Division winner is: Mykala Jones, BHS The winner of the 2022 Boerne ISD Holiday Card Contest is: Mykala Jones, BHS | All-State MusicWe honored the 2022 Texas Music Educators Association All-State Performers. Champion’s Turner Rey and Laz Rey, were All-State in the Viola and Jazz Guitar, while Boerne’s Samuel Igbo is an all-state violinist. Beginning each fall, over 70,000 high school students across the state audition in their TMEA Region. Individuals perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part. A select group of musicians advances to compete against musicians from other Regions in their TMEA Area. The highest-ranking musicians judged at the TMEA Area competitions qualify to perform in one of 18 Texas All-State ensembles sponsored by the Band, Orchestra, and Vocal Divisions. The All-State students will perform at the TMEA convention in February, which takes place in San Antonio. | VFW WinnersWe recognized a total of eight Boerne ISD Students and Staff have been selected to receive awards from Boerne’s VFW Post 688. We were joined by Post 688 Commander Scott Galliardt and Quartermaster Bob Worrall In the Patriot’s Pen Essay Contest, Boerne Middle School South claimed both first and second place, with 6th grader Meridith Greer York taking first and receiving a $200 scholarship, and 7th grader Carter D. Calaway claimed second and received a $150 scholarship, while Boerne Middle School North 6th-Grader Charlie Bowden took third place and earned a $100 scholarship. The students wrote their essays on the theme “My Pledge to our Veterans” In the Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Contest, Boerne High School juniors swept all three awards, with Madeleine Goodrich winning first place and a $400 scholarship, Katherine Louise Fonza took second and earned a $300 scholarship, and Keira Luevano placed third and won a $200 scholarship. The students recorded their essays on the theme “Why is the Veteran Important?” Madeline’s audio essay also earned first place at the VFW District 13 competition, which earned her an additional $750 scholarship. Two teachers earned Citizenship Teacher Awards, with Boerne Middle School South’s Joe “Pepe” Garcia winning the Middle School Division, and Herff Elementary’s Andria Burton taking the title in the Elementary School Division. Both Garcia and Burton won a $500 prize. |

All-State Music

The PhD Science program encourages elementary school students to develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills so that students think and act like real scientists. Special thank you to Victor Salinas and the Teaching & Learning Dept. for assisting us with this grant opportunity. BEF Executive Director, Yvette Reyna is proud to present this check for $7,500 to Boerne ISD. Our Teaching and Learning Department will work with the elementary school teachers to implement this program in all BISD Elementary Schools. | In God We Trust Board President Rich Sena thanked members of the St. John Lutheran Church for presenting a poster of the National Motto, "In God We Trust" to the board. We also honored the artist, Boerne High School's Brayden Garder. Per Texas Senate Bill 797, the posters will be displayed at all Boerne ISD campuses. |

Boerne ISD Names Blane Ellis Champion Head Football Coach
Boerne ISD named current Champion High School Defensive Coordinator Blane Ellis as the school’s new Head Football Coach and Athletic Coordinator. The announcement was made at the BISD Board of Trustees Monthly Meeting on Monday.

2023-24 District Calendar Adopted
The Board adopted the 2023-24 Academic Calendar.
At the end of November, Boerne ISD released a survey inviting parents, staff, and students to choose between two different options for the 2023-2024 academic calendar. The survey ended on December 9th and results showed over 70% of the community preferred Calendar Option A.
The Boerne ISD Trustees approved that academic calendar at Monday’s board meeting.
Students will start school Thursday, August 10th, 2023. The last day of the school year is Thursday, May 23rd, 2024.
