Instructional Coaches Corner: LEARNER ENGAGEMENT/KAGAN STRUCTURES
Thanks to all the teachers that welcomed us into their classroom so that we could observe a lesson. You all did a fabulous job!
I noticed students on task and following directions. You could tell that procedures and routines were in place. You all worked hard creating lessons for us to observe. You guys ROCK!
I wonder how we can use Kagan Structures to get students more actively engaged. What kind of learning would occur if we had ALL students participating and having fun?
If you research Kagan Strategies it can look overwhelming to say the least. I would start with one strategy until you feel comfortable then add more. If you would like help implementing a Kagan Strategy into your lesson planning, please let me know. I would love to help!
What is Kagan? (video)
Below are a few activities that would keep all students engaged and actively learning in the classroom...
The Quiz, Quiz, Trade strategy would be a great one for processing and reviewing information. It is useful for any process or procedure with a definite right/wrong answer.
