Is it still October?
ARC Focus of the Week
- Create a flexible conference schedule and begin conferencing with your students daily during reader's workshop. The goal at this point is to meet with every student at least one time in a 10 day period.
- We will plan to have equitable conferences beginning November 4. Please see my weekly update for more information.
- Log home and school steps daily
- Have a plan for those students who are not reading at home. Do they need a reading buddy at school? Let me know and I will get them a partner!
IWCS Reading Goals
ALL learners will receive the differentiated support needed to ensure 1 year of reading growth.
And we are striving for GREATER with this added part of our goal...
Proficient learners will make at least 1.0 (1 year) of reading growth.
At-risk learners will make at least 1.25 (1 year and 2 and half months) of reading growth.
Emergency learners will make at least 1.50 (1 year and 5 months) of reading growth.
The power of conferencing
We are getting in the swing of conferencing! We know our student's reading level and now it is time to figure out the best way to help them grow.
During our literacy PD, we talked about the importance of finding what our students can do and giving them growth points. We also talked about finding what they need to do to become stronger readers.
Conferencing one on one with our students helps us build relationships and share our love of reading. We have the chance to make the student feel special and encourage them to take risks. We have the power to help them feel safe and take chances because that is what it takes to learn.
