WEEK IN REVIEW
We were so fortunate to be able to join (via skype) an interview with the author Kate DiCamillo. She is the author of sevaral children's books including Because of Winn Dixie, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, The Tale of Despereaux, the Mercy Watson series, and the all-new Raymie Nightingale. The students enjoyed hearing all the ideas and tips from this accomplished author!
READING/SCIENCE
We read some more material on magnetism, forces, and motion. Students had time to explore with magnets this week to see what objects in the class would attract to a magnet and which would not. Next week, we will continue to explore forces and magnets as we learn more reading strategies for reading nonfiction text.
**With the end of the year quickly approaching, please encourage your child to read at home on a regular basis. Many students already reached their AR goal and I am hoping we have 100% of the class achieve this in the 4th quarter! We know Dr. Scaletta always has some exciting surprise for our school at the end of the year if 100% of the students reach their goal!!
WRITING/POETRY
Next week we will continue to explore various poets and poems. We will also write some of our own poetry using techniques we notice in poems we've read. I'm so proud of some of the poems the students' have begun already!
MATH
Students took their quadrilateral assessment this week. Next week I will do some re-teaching so they can do a retest later in the week to improve their grade. We will also be taking the STAR math test next week.
Students can continue to practice multiplication and division facts on xtramath.org and/or IXL.com.
