Welcome Back from AISLE!

... although you have been back in school for a month or so!

Great plans for 2014-15

Your AISLE board met in Indianapolis on August 23, and many great ideas were generated. We want to do even more to support you in efficient, timely ways, and provide resources to you that are easily accessible. Our most valuable asset is our own expertise! To that end, you will be receiving an email from me with a google form to quickly list any online sites you have to share, and other areas in which you are willing to network or host visitors.

A new page in libraries

I don't know when I've ever been so excited for an ILF conference! We have a new location, the Indianapolis Marriott East. I have attended many meetings there; the meeting rooms are conveniently located, parking is free, wireless is free, accommodations are cheaper, and the food is great. That doesn't even take into account the wonderful lineup of sessions available! There will be two adjacent rooms with sessions presented by AISLE members during each concurrent time; in addition, you will undoubtedly find sessions presented by others in the library world that will be of interest to you, and there are several authors of note attending, including, but not limited to, Mike Mullin, Chris VanAllsburg, Chris Barton, Saundra Mitchell, Mindy McGinnis

One thing that is particularly encouraging is that we have many new members and new librarians who will be in attendance. In my mind, attending ILF is perhaps the single best thing that one can do as a new librarian. I remember when I attended my first ILF conference as a new media specialist, and the lasting friendships and invaluable contacts I made from the very beginning! If you have new librarians in your district or area, please reach out to them and encourage them to attend. Registration information and the preliminary program are on the ILF website. Early bird registration ends October 3.

VERY short business meeting, special presentation from TeachingBooks.net and door prizes! The business meeting does include elections. We will be choosing AISLE President-Elect and Treasurer. If you are interested in running for an office, please contact Leslie Sutherlin (leslie.sutherlin@sdcsc.k12.in.us) or Susie Highley (shighley@warren.k12.in.us)

Membership has its privileges

Thanks to all of you who have already renewed your membership; most find it's convenient to do that at the same time you register for the conference. Last year, we had 35 new members, largely due to word of mouth from you, our continuing members. As a member, you have access to resources shared through AASL and ISTE, notice of any AISLE district gatherings, discount registration to ILF conference and spring district meetings, opportunities to serve as a leader or committee member, and access to our always-helpful listserv. We are also expanding our shared resources through our wiki.
