Jaguar Journal

February 1, 2023

Message from Mrs. Morgan:

It is hard to believe that we have passed the half way point of the year. Teachers have worked hard to create meaningful learning opportunities and teach school-wide behavior expectations. February is a month filled with kindness and positive energy. We are celebrating Kindness Month, Black History Month, and President's Day this month. Don't forget there is no school on February 20th and 21st.

As always, thank you for the opportunity to work and learn alongside your child!

First semester we raised money for United Way, thank you to everyone who contributed. Our school raised $3,766.00. The district total for United Way is $127, 995.44.

Second semester we will be raising money for Relay for Life. Please see flyer below for our upcoming Bake Sale.

MAP Assessment Highlights by Mr. Greaves

In January, our students took the Winter MAP Administration for the subjects of Math and Reading, and THEY DID OUTSTANDING!! In Math, our grade level achievement was at or higher than the 67th percentile for every grade level. We topped out at the 96th percentile for achievement in Kindergarten. For our growth in math, we had stellar results. Each grade level showed tons of growth with Kindergarten, First Grade, and Third Grade having growth higher than 90 percent of all other students across the country who started where they did.

In Reading, our students continued to excel with achievement percentiles higher than 60%. Even more impressive than the achievement scores was our growth. We had two grade levels, First grade and Third Grade, who had growth in the 99th percentile! This means our students in those grade levels grew more than 99% of other students who started where they did. WAY TO GO JAGS!

A Note from SSA (Student Success Alliance)

Random Acts of Kindness day is February 17, 2023. In preparation for this wonderful day, the Student Success Alliance has planned a month of Kindness for the students of Sharon Elementary School. Every week the students will hear about the many ways to be kind and will share with their teachers how they have shown kindness to friends, teachers, animals, family and community. Each of these shared acts of kindness will be written on a strip of paper in class and collected. The collected papers will be looped together by our kind volunteers into a paper chain that will be strung along the halls of the school to show how easily and quickly kindness can spread. Please help at home by talking about kindness and helping your child share their acts of kindness with their teachers.

Black History Month Challenge

If students stop and pick up a graphic organizer from the periodic table poster, fill it out and bring it back to Ms. Gray or Mrs. Elliott, they will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a prize. This challenge will end on 2/24 and students can enter as many times as they would like. They must pick a person that is on the periodic table to research.

Congratulations to our Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl for competing last weekend!

The Sharon Jags are off to a great start for 3rd quarter! Students are doing a wonderful job of being Respectful, Organized, Accepting, and Responsible! A special thanks to all of the parents for reinforcing our expectations at home as well! This month, we have been focusing on being Respectful and Responsible in the cafeteria for dismissal as this is a new routine! We can't wait to rock out the rest of the year.
