Notes from Principal Dra. Cardenas
Some thoughts for the starting school year
Every morning, announcements begin with the Song of the Week chosen by our Music Teacher, Mrs. Dietlin-Anderson. Each day, different facts about the singer are shared before beginning the pledges. Listen to the song with your child and ask him/her what they remember about the singer. If they don't remember, give them the task to remember one fact they hear the following day. Having daily conversations with your child about their school day can help nurture trust and social-emotional skills.
Esteemed RHE Community,
This week, we started our mCLASS MOY testing in K- 4th Grade and PK - 2nd grade began practicing for their upcoming winter plays, and we hosted the Grade Level Spelling Bees, and our 4th Graders running for Student Council Officers began to campaign on campus. Report cards went out on Wednesday. We thank everyone who went out to Little Ceasar's to support our campus. We sent out flyers for the reading incentives we have in place this year. Our library is now available for students to checkout books before class, starting at 7:15am. We love to see our students going back and forth to change their books and use their time wisely to read and take an Accelerated Reader test.
This Tuesday, we started our partnership with AgriLife. AgriLife is a school partnership program from Texas A&M. In the 3rd Six Weeks, every Tuesday, they will receive a presentation during PE about healthy eating.
Truancy calls were made to parents for excessive absences. When a student reaches 10 unexcused absences, we are required to submit the attendance report for truancy with our court system at which point parents would appear before the judge. There are unexpected situations where an absence is beyond a parent's control. Avoid using absences for anything else that is not an emergency to avoid accumulating excessive absences that reach the truancy limit. Overall, for us, our goal is to identify the reason for excessive absences and work with the parents to prevent further absences.
Next week, 3rd - 4th Graders will take their Fall Benchmarks. Parents, we ask for your support in bringing your child to school every day so that they do not miss out on imperative reviews, practice, and assessments that will help our teachers better meet their needs.
Our district partnered with Region One to partake in the Texas Strategic Leadership Program which helping us deeply engage in research-based strategies that come from an Effective District Framework. This helps us design systems that will enhance the overall student experience in our district.
We want to have your input; your voice matters. Please take a minute to answer the questions in this survey... https://bit.ly/familyRHISD
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! We'll see you back on Monday, bright and early at school before 8:00am.
