Park Terrace Elementary
January 19, 2022 Newsletter
Greetings Park Terrace Families!
I hope you all had the opportunity to enjoy the long weekend and were able to get outside to enjoy some of the, dare I say it, warm weather! It certainly was a pleasant reprieve although we are back to the deep freeze once again. Still, it reminded me that spring isn’t too far away! Additionally, I hope everyone had the chance to reflect on the incredible life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.!
Keeping learning going
I am truly proud of the work that is being done by the staff at Spring Lake Park Schools right now. This week we continue to successfully match staff from across the district with openings in our schools due to staff absences. I am grateful that we have a team that is committed to support in person learning and I truly appreciate the collective efforts of our community to provide a safe place for students to learn and for teachers to teach.
As we continue to manage through this latest surge of COVID-19, there is no perfect solution. We remain committed to doing everything we can to keep Park Terrace doors open so students can directly engage with teachers and have access to essentials like nutritious meals. Thank you to all our staff for their flexibility during these times and for your commitment to go above and beyond on behalf of our students.
SPARK Fridays
Our SPARK sessions on Fridays continue to be incredibly positive for our students. Throughout the week, leading up to Friday afternoons, I overhear students talking about how excited they are for SPARK. I hear students asking friends what class they are in.
The reviews from students are so fun. I have seen the glowing smiles of students as they make food or build a robot. I have listened to 4th graders tell me the technical ins and outs of the AV club. It’s amazing and truly a reminder that some of the best learning and most engaging experiences occur when students have the opportunity to pursue what they are interested in. I am grateful to all of our staff and community partners for the work they have done to make this program successful!
Looking ahead
Now that we have finally settled into the return of school after winter break, we can look ahead to see that the late winter and early spring is a busy time!
- ACCESS testing will begin in late January and early February
- February 1 is our kindergarten information night at Park Terrace. This Kindergarten Kickoff is from 5:30-7 p.m. Be sure to have it on your calendar if you have a future kindergartener in your home!
This is an important time for students, staff and families alike. Let’s continue to work hard, learn lots, and keep this great year going! Have a great rest of the week, Park Terrace!
