Week in Review!
Thank you to our great Laurie Wanser for her work with rock wall tranining. As you can see from the picture above, in the far corner, we have some little climbers hard at work! As well we have busy hula-hoppers with many other busy activity stations.
Genius Hour is making strides and preparing for our "giant" next step. We have worked hard at building foundational skill and understanding in the Design process. Students should be able to articulate this at high levels. The next step is allowing their voice to come throught their learning with their true passion or interest driving their project. This is a big step! If you recall back a few months ago, we talked about this piece in our process in which we will call for all hands on deck. This may include talking with them in class or connecting them with a resource. In a great way, this is the calm before the ingeniuty storm. Thank you to Kathy Drake is helping lead this charge. She took a giant step forward this year, into the world of abstract, and pioneering this window of opportuntiy for kids. When Britt joined in with the team, we took another leap forward. Keep it up Brit and Kathy!
Today I sat in and watched as kids starting didgging deep into defining just what makes a person a Genius and what they may have in common or how they may be different. They are quickly learning how this can be anyone, including each of them!
Kathy is very diligent at preparing our student for their individual projects. This is a gradual progression, much like gradual release. Students today worked to identify just what is a genius. They have learned the design process and soon will manufactore this new knowledge into a small project that will be an example of their big project to come!
Week Ahead!
We will have a staff meeting on Wednesday starting at 8:10 in the Adventure Center. Kyle will be sharing on District Technology Goals and what that means for us as well as COPPA information.
I am out of the office next Thursday and Friday and will be challenged to get to email. Carolyn will be leading the way with support from district leads if you should have an emergency. And, as always, I will have my cell phone available almost anytime (317-690-5069).

Please let Carly or Kathy know if you need help setting up your progress monitoring. You should be progress monitoring students that are below the 35th percentile or students that you have concerns about.
Also, if you need help writing RTI plans for students that are receiving services above the first tier, let Carly or Kathy know as well. We are here to help!
As a bonus, here is a link to the Florida Center for Reading Research. It has materials for the five pillars of reading for grades kindergarten through fifth grade. Along the left side click on “Instructional Materials for Teachers” to access links to resources for grades kindergarten through fifth.
