Student Schedule Verification Forms (Due Friday, April 29)
OHS Families,
Student registration for the 2022-2023 school year was a huge success and the feedback received was very positive. Accurate student registration is important to creating a master schedule that works for all students.
Last week each student received a Verification Form in their 4th block class. It is imperative to our master scheduling process that guardians review the form with their student carefully to ensure classes are correctly identified, and reflect upon the classes your student needs for the 2022-23 school year.
If there is a course which needs to be changed, mark through it directly on the Verification Form and write in an alternative class. If additional assistance is needed, please refer to the 2022-2023 High School Curriculum and Registration Guide. The curriculum guide may be accessed by going to: OCS Course Guide https://www.orangecountyfirst.com/Page/119
***Signed forms should be returned to the 4th block teachers by Friday, April 29***
As a reminder and outlined on pg. 23 of the OCS course guide, students may only drop or add a class under the following circumstances:
Attended summer school, creating a need to change.
Scheduled for a class in which the student has already earned a credit, or failed a course that is a prerequisite for the scheduled class
Has not been scheduled for the number of classes required by the school
A specific course is needed for graduation
Course(s) may be changed to accommodate an administrative need.

UNC Board Updates Testing Policies for Fall 2023
The UNC Board has made a decision about their testing policies for students entering in Fall 2023. They have decided to remain test optional through Fall 2024. This means that if you are applying to a UNC system school for Fall 2023 or Fall 2024 then you do not have to provide test scores with your application. It can still be beneficial to take either the SAT or ACT as a good score will boost your application, however, these tests are not required. For more information about this decision click here. If you have any questions feel free to email me.
Girls Talk Math 2022
We are excited to announce that the Mathematics Department of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will once again host the free summer camp Girls Talk Math. This year's program will run from June 27th to July 1st, 9am-4pm.
The camp is for rising 9th to 12th graders in the Triangle area interested in Mathematics who identify as female or an underrepresented gender.
Campers will work on challenging math problems that go beyond the high school curriculum and will have the opportunity to participate in many more activities.
For full consideration, fill out the application form by the end of April. Rolling admissions will be then made as space allows.
*Due to the ever-changing situation that is the COVID-19 pandemic, we reserve the right to alter the format of camp according to UNC's policies. We will be taking precautions in alignment with UNC's policies. Currently, we expect to require proof of a negative COVID test before camp and the encouragement of mask wearing.
