SPECIAL EDITION - ST. HILARY SCHOLARSHIPS
St. Hilary 2021-2022 Scholarships Now Available!
December 1, 2020
Dear Parents and Students,
St. Hilary School is pleased to again partner with the St. Hilary Parish Foundation to offer a variety of scholarships to help our school families for the 2021-2022 school year. Available to students currently enrolled at St. Hilary School in grades K-7, each of the scholarships being offered has unique criteria so that, together, they are open to the broadest possible range of students and families. The criteria for each scholarship were set by the donors.
One common application will allow a student to apply for as many of the listed scholarships as he or she desires. One essay written by a parent of the student applicant, and one essay written by the student applicant (for students entering grades 6-8 only) will suffice for all scholarships applied for, provided the essay addresses the qualifications for each scholarship sought. In addition, each student applicant must complete one teacher recommendation request form seeking a recommendation from a teacher who currently has the student in class. The teacher recommendation will apply to each scholarship sought by the applicant. (Some scholarships also require a supplemental financial information form and are noted as such. These scholarships also require that the applicant complete an online FACTS tuition assistance application.) Application materials for the scholarships can be found here. All materials must be submitted per the instructions listed on the forms, and all are due by January 22, 2021. Please note that in order for teachers to submit their recommendations by this date, students must submit recommendation request forms to teachers by January 8, 2021. All students applying for scholarships must also be re-registered for the 2021-2022 school year by the January 22 application deadline. Re-registration will open January 4, 2021.
All materials and the information they contain will be treated confidentially. Each scholarship awarded will be applied directly to the respective recipient student’s 2021-2022 tuition. After considering comments received and surveying past scholarship recipients, because financial need will be taken into consideration for all of the scholarships and is the exclusive criteria for some, in order to encourage as many families as possible to apply and to respect the privacy of the recipients, recipients will be notified privately and not announced. Please note that these scholarships differ from the scholarships awarded in memory of Kevin Neff, Jane Klenotic and Jimmy Lyons, as well as the scholarships awarded by the St. Hilary Athletic Association, in that those scholarships do not consider financial need and recipients are not required to apply for them in order to be selected.
The available scholarships for which students may apply for the 2021-2022 school year are:
Friend of St. Hilary Scholarship: Up to three $2,000 scholarships, with the potential for additional scholarships, funded through an anonymous donor, based on the desire for a Catholic education as demonstrated in parent essay and student essay if applicable. Need and special circumstances explained in parent essay will be considered. Special consideration will be given to families with more than one child.
Mother Teresa Scholarship: One $2,000 scholarship funded through St. Hilary Parents’ Association Scholarship Fund to be awarded to a student who continually displays kindness and generosity, putting other’s needs before his or her own and demonstrating empathy.
Sr. Carol Joy Scholarship: One $2,000 scholarship funded through St. Hilary Parents’ Association Scholarship Fund to be awarded to a student who demonstrates a strong desire to better him or herself educationally, striving to improve daily, setting goals not just for high marks but for learning and continually improving scores.
St. Aloysius Scholarship: One $2,000 scholarship funded through St. Hilary Parents’ Association Scholarship Fund to be awarded to a student who displays his or her love for the Catholic faith and openly displays his or her love for God by demonstrating a loving attitude of grace and appropriateness.

The scholarships that are based exclusively on financial need and require a supplemental financial information form as well as an online FACTS tuition assistance application are:
Ralph and Florence Bernard Scholarship: Two $2,000 scholarships funded through the Ralph L. and Florence A. Bernard Fund, based exclusively on financial need as substantiated by supplemental financial information form and FACTS tuition assistance application. Parent essay explaining the desire for a Catholic education and any special circumstances will be considered to differentiate among applicants who qualify based on need.
The Rev. Steven Brunovsky Catholic Leadership Scholarship: One $1,000 scholarship funded by The Rev. Steven Brunovsky Catholic Leadership Scholarship Fund to be awarded to a student who demonstrates financial need as substantiated by supplemental financial information form and FACTS tuition assistance application, and exemplifies a strong practice of the Catholic faith as demonstrated in essay(s) and input from school administration and teachers.
Edward L. Gilbert Family Scholarship: One $600 scholarship funded through the Edward L. Gilbert Family Scholarship Fund, for an African-American or Biracial student, and based on financial need as substantiated by supplemental financial information form and FACTS tuition assistance application.
St. Hilary Knights of Columbus Scholarship: Two $500 scholarships funded through the St. Hilary Knights of Columbus Scholarship Fund, based on a student’s focus on charity, unity, fraternity, patriotism, and community service as demonstrated in parent essay and student essay if applicable. Applicant must also demonstrate financial need as substantiated by supplemental financial information form and FACTS tuition assistance application.
We encourage all St. Hilary School families to consider applying for one or more of these scholarships, especially if financial need or special circumstances are present. Families are also encouraged to apply for need-based tuition assistance by applying online through FACTS by March 1, regardless of also applying for any of these scholarships. More information about tuition assistance will be available in January.
