Cooper Mountain Newsletter
New Year Edition
Dear Cooper Mountain Families,
I hope this letter finds you well, rested, and ready to send your children back to us! January always feels like a fresh start and I am looking forward to re-establishing the community that is Cooper Mountain. Here is a quick glimpse of the types of activities that your child will experience this month:
The character trait and skill we are focusing on is Self-Control. There are three main areas of self-control that we can focus on for your child: Emotional Self-Control, Mental Self-Control, and Physical Self-Control.
We will re-establish a trusting and respectful community where all students feel included and valued. We will have a Spirit Assembly on Friday where all 520+ students gather together to sing our Cooper Mountain song, to review a component of our character trait and to honor students who are demonstrating Safe, Respectful, and Responsible behaviors.
We will revisit and review the expectations and rules that we have in all areas of the building: classrooms, hall, playground, cafeteria, and assemblies, to name a few.
Teachers will review classroom procedures and routines - it's easy to forget all the ins and outs of an efficient and smooth-running classroom over the two weeks at home!
And of course, we will dive into curriculum and learning. Students will brush up their math facts, and will pick up the books they may have left behind last year. New goals will be set and, as before, students will eagerly share their work with me when I enter the classroom to see what they're learning.
It's a good life. I am so glad to be working with you as educational partners.
On a very personal note, thank you for your lovely cards, notes, and holiday gifts. I so appreciated your many kindnesses - each and every day!
Have a wonderful and happy New Year!
Kristin
Important Dates!
Calendar Change and Schedule Reminders
Families - the Ice Cream Social that was previously scheduled for Friday, January 5th has been postponed. Our PTO will host this event later in the spring and we will look forward to coming together then to enjoy some sweet treats. Come to the PTO meeting on January 30 to find out more!
Kindergarten Registration begins in February. Please remind your friends and neighbors to call our office (503 356-2070) in order to receive a registration packet in the mail.
Online Conference Sign up will also occur in early February. Look for an update and instructions about the online sign up in upcoming Cooper Mountain newsletters. Conferences are February 28, March 1 and March 2.
Spring and Summer Schedules
Every school day is important, but when we begin our standardized testing, it is crucial that your child be here. Please try to not schedule extra vacations during SBAC times: after spring vacation through early June. It impacts your child's classroom schedule and causes equity issues. Call Kristin if you have questions!

There's Still Time to Help!
Parents,
We would still love your support in funding our ambitious Hokki Stool project. Students love having this option as a "moving" stool while they think and work. All donations are tax deductible and we only have a few weeks to raise the money.
Click on this link to see how you can help students focus on learning! Remember that this is an entire school project even though the script is from only one of our teachers. All classrooms will benefit.
