Applied Sustainability Practicum Update

ENST450, our Applied Sustainability Practicum at St. Mary's, has been working all semester on individual campus-centered sustainability projects. Here's a taste of what they've been working on:

  • Implementing a peer led, Eco-Rep education program into curriculum
  • Increasing efficiency of waste disposal at the Grab-and-Go
  • Changing procurement and consumption habits at the Grab-and-Go
  • Updating requirements for SMCM's greenhouse gas inventory
  • Implementing lighting energy efficiency projects in campus buildings
  • Organizing a campus-wide day of service
  • Creating a sustainable campus cookbook
  • Revitalizing our campus's healing garden
  • Creating an EnvironMentors program to link SMCM faculty and St. Mary's county public schools
  • Incorporating athletic facilities in sustainable consideration on campus
  • Recording the history of sustainability at St. Mary's
  • Working to create less paper use on campus through encouraging Blackboard use and thoughtful printing
  • Tracking ENST SMCM after-graduate life to create an alum-student network
