New Birthday Party and Holiday Celebrations Policy
We wanted to update you on a new birthday and classroom party policy that was adopted for both Daniel Webster and Theodore Roosevelt Schools.
Due to student populations of over four hundred students, one or two birthday celebrations could be taking place each school day. In the past, cupcakes and other unhealthy foods were distributed sometimes on a daily basis.
We need to alter these birthday celebrations to ensure that students with allergies are safe, improve eating habits and minimize disruption to classroom instruction. We must protect our students that have various food allergies. Therefore, we would like to offer families a different opportunity to celebrate your child’s birthday in school, as no food, candy or balloons of any kind will be permitted in our schools this year. (Balloons will not be permitted as they are detrimental to the health of our environment.)
We are recommending the following alternatives:
Birthday party celebrations could include a parent or family member reading a story to the class or leading some other type of activity. The other students can sign the book that is read.
Parents may distribute a non-edible token or goodie.
Other creative ideas are welcome!
Holiday parties will be restricted to pretzels, Baked Lays (G.F.), Pirate Booty (G.F.), 100% fruit juice and water. Holiday games and activities will be strongly encouraged instead. The few exceptions that will be made include the following:
The PreK Thanksgiving Feast
Holiday Breakfast
Pride Day/Fun Day
End of the Year Celebrations (PreK-2nd Grade)
Thank you for understanding and respecting this new policy. By not bringing in food, candy or balloons of any kind, we will be promoting better eating habits, protecting our students with allergies and minimizing disruption to instructional time. We appreciate your support.
