READvolution 2018-19
The Wake County Schools are excited to once again partner with the Carolina Hurricanes to implement READvolution in all of our elementary schools. This year, READvolution will start and end earlier so we avoid major holidays and Winter Break. We’ll kick-off on Monday, September 24 and wrap-up on Friday, November 16. The goal however remains reading daily for 20 minutes and 800 minutes cumulatively over the eight-weeks.
Just like in 2017-18, this year’s challenge features both individual and school-wide components. Based on last year’s feedback, we are excited to announce that the Carolina Hurricanes will award students who achieve the reading goal of 20 minutes per day throughout the allotted time frame (for a total of 800 minutes) will receive two complimentary ticket vouchers to a Hurricanes home game.
For the school-wide component, schools that collectively read 2,020 books between Sept. 24 and Nov. 16 will be entered into a drawing by region to participate in this year’s Cool School Field Trip to the PNC Arena in February 2019. If your school is selected from the drawing to attend the Cool School Field Trip, students will have the opportunity to see a Hurricanes practice, participate in fun activities, and hear from the players.
Schools that were selected for the 2018 Cool School Field Trip that achieve the 2,020 goal this year will have their names entered into their regional drawing once. Schools that were not selected in 2018 and achieve the 2,020 goal will have their names entered into the drawing twice. Please note you can always participate in the READvolution initiative but opt-out of participation in the drawing for the Cool School Field Trip.
Guides have been created to share with families and school staff to help log reading and books into the READvolution Dashboard. Go to video overview to find out how to log in new books. Also go to the following links for more parent information on READvolution and a "info sheet" on signing books in.

LANDSCAPE CLEAN UP DAY
Our Fall clean up day originally scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 22 has been moved to Saturday, October 20 from 9-12. Our focus will be the front carpool/bus loop rounds, and the front of the K-1 building near the parking lot. Depending on how many people attend, we may extend our work to the back of the K-1 hallway. Please bring yard tools, clippers, and blowers. We will not be doing "heavy" work- rather a fall clean up session. If interested in helping with landscaping events, please join the Landscaping Hub in MemberHub. You may also send an email to valeriedebruin@icloud.com for questions, comments and suggestions.
We greatly need volunteers to help make this a success! Water and snacks will be provided by the PTA. Students are welcome to participate and their parents must also be present. We hope to see you there!

ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 24-28, 2018
Make Up Days: Go to Make Up Days for the schedule for how Wake county will be making up the 3 lost days lost to Hurricane Florence. We made up the first day this past Saturday, September 22. The second and third days are being made up by making the early releases scheduled on Friday, September 28 and Friday October 19th into full instructional days
As mentioned in last week's Sunday Message, the PTA is providing staff appreciation meals for the PUE staff in a different way this year. Instead of asking all parents for contributions for every early release meal they are asking that parents from each grade level to be responsible for just ONE meal. After that they are done. The upcoming Early Release Meal on Friday, September 28th will be the responsibility of 5th GRADE PARENTS!!! That being said all 5th grade classrooms will are being asked to contribute to their teacher's lunch. Please send in your check or access the following link Staff Appreciation Monetary Donation to support your grade level staff appreciation lunch!!
Fall Box Tops Classroom Contest
The Box Tops classroom contest for this Fall begins on Monday, September. 24 and runs through Friday, December 7. Bags will go home in this week's Tuesday Folders. Please put your child's name on the information sheet inside the bag. Send the bags in often as Box Tops do have expiration dates. The bag will be returned to the student to allow for more submissions throughout the contest.
We had a very successful year last year and raised over $1,500 for our school. Let's make this another great year!
