February Update
From Twin HIlls Middle to the Homefront
Principal's Pen
Well, it's February... does anyone else feel like they're living Groundhog Day, the movie?
Despite all the craziness and unknown, I am so fortunate to be a part of a community that supports and perseveres together! As we continue to maneuver through the second half of the school year, I cannot stress enough the importance of student engagement in classes. We have been sending home attendance emails to students missing the majority of their classes, and these have helped get many students re-engaged! Your support at home is key! Thank you!
In a recent conversation with some students, they shared that they would love some extra elective and PE time. We are happy to say that we will be adding in some extra time when we can! Our first additional day is Thursday, February 11th. This means your child will attend their normal electives and PE classes on Wednesday the 10th. Then they get another bonus day on the 11th. This also means that your child will have one less day of core classes/instruction during this week.
Just a reminder, please stay connected for up to date information! Find us on social media (Facebook and Instagram) for updates regularly. Also, feel free to browse our website for more detailed information. As always, please call the office anytime with questions or concerns! We're here for you and want to help!
Sincerely,
Shawna Whitestine
Suggestions for Success in Distance Learning
All of our teachers are giving participation points to those students who attend class and/or turn in work regularly.
2. Turn your camera on. This allows for more participation and collaboration in class.
3. Actively participate.
4. Leave other distractions in a different room (i.e. video games, phones, etc.).
5. Find a great productive working location (table or desk). Working while in a bed is distracting and not conducive to active participation or academic success.

Eggnationals 2021
They say that neither sleet nor hail will keep the postman from delivering and now the same can be said of the Twin Hills Eggnationals and COVID-19! It looked like this might be the first year without our annual races, but Twin Hills 8th graders stepped up and built cars that were raced live on Instagram. The object of the Eggnationals is to build the fastest car to race down the track, hit a brick wall, and toss a raw egg into the racer's hands. Cars must also be decorated because there is also a beauty contest.
Our catcher this year was our own Dawn Salas, office manager extrordinaire and a surprisingly good sport! She never knew that her job description included catching raw eggs!! Ms. Whitestine and Ms. Francesci did the filming, Mr. Higgins was the official timer and Ms. Lalonde was our official photographer. We also had two dads, Ron Hartman and a mystery man who we simply refer to as "Shellie's Dad", submit entries.
The winners and their times were:
1st Learning Block: Kate H. (2.52), Chiara E. (2.90), Tyson M. (3.18), Beauty- Julian S. Theme: Yellow Submarine
2nd Learning Block: Maddy J. (2.19), Hailey L. (2.69), Kelly B. (2.75), Beauty- Rebecca F. Theme: Mutt's Cutts
3rd Learning Block: Vanessa E. (2.60), Michael L. (2.78), Giulianna G. (2.84), Pearl M. (2.84) Beauty- Giulianna G. Theme: Firetruck w Mom
4th Learning Block: Shellie H. (2.65), Jackie V. (2.66), Jack M. (2.72), Laurel M. (2.72) Beauty- Laurel M. Theme: "Van"Go and Talia M. Theme: Lucky Cat
Other Winners:
Mechanical Division: Vincent C. (2.78)
Dads: "Shellie's Dad" Grand Champion and owns R.H. (2.56) and Ron Hartman (2.84)
Although the races were a huge success this year, nothing beats the real thing and everyone is looking forward to the 2022 Eggnationals which will once again be live in room 16! If you are interested in viewing this year's races, they can be seen on our Instagram page under IGTV!

Yearbooks are coming...don't miss out!
YEARBOOK IS HAPPENING AND IT’S GOING TO BE EPIC!
The yearbook class has been working really hard on what will likely be the most historic and important book they’ve ever done. It’s filled with more personal stories than ever. It’s going to tell the story of this year and everything we are going through. If you have a graduate, you’re going to want to celebrate them in any way possible and placing a tribute in the yearbook is the perfect solution! HURRY THOUGH, parent ads are due by February 11th!
