Welcome Back!

September 6, 2018

We officially welcome you back to LHS for another great year!

Our first two days have gone very smoothly and we look forward to sharing the next 9+ months with all of you. We encourage you to get involved in the different clubs and activities we have to offer, or to check our some of our fall sports games, including our very first home football game of the year tomorrow night against Hopewell!

Reporting for Duty...

LHS is proud and excited to welcome Officer Suzanne Girard to our Cardinal nest. With shared funding from the school district and the township, we now have the privilege of reintroducing the presence of a School Resource Officer at the high school. For those who don't know, LHS has enjoyed the many benefits of having an SRO in the past before budget cuts disallowed us to continue doing so. Officer Girard will work hand in hand with school administration to oversee the safety and security of the building and assist with police functions as needed. The SRO will only be involved upon the request of school administration.

Officer Girard is starting her 17th year with the Lawrence Township Police Department (and has been in the township for over 22 years). She also spent a year at LMS as an SRO, and is already thrilled to be meeting and connecting with our students on a more personal level. Officer Girard will not only serve in the SRO capacity here, but will also be a resource for our drivers' education and health classes. She is married to her husband, Michael (LHS class of '92), and has three sons, Michael (11), Charlie (8), and Harrison (6).

When you see her friendly face in the halls, be sure to say hi, introduce yourself, and give her a warm welcome!

LHS is happy to add to our already fabulous team here with some new faculty for the 2018-2019 school year! We are confident that our new crew members are as excited to be here as we are to have them. Welcome to all new staff and faculty, we look forward to having you as part of the family!

Attendance Expectations at LHS

We want to remind you how important it is for our students to be in school each and every day. If students accumulate more than 15 attendance points (unexcused absences or tardies account for the "points") then they lose credit for the course. Students should be in their classroom at 7:45 each day. Any student that comes after the bell is considered unexcused tardy unless they have a doctor's note or documentation of another approved excused absence, found in the student handbook. Three tardies count as one absence, so it is important to be on time for every class!

Three Cheers for LHS Cheerleaders!

The LHS cheerleaders recently returned from the UCA Trails End Cheer Camp in the Poconos where over thirty teams throughout the tri-state participated! But they didn't return empty handed...

Varsity (coached by Adrienne Wasserleben) won 1st place in "Game-Day Sideline," "Game-Day Cheer," and "Game-Day Camp Champs, as well as 2nd place overall in Rally Routine Camp Champs!

JV (coached by Allie DeLeon) nabbed 2nd place in "Game-Day Sideline," 3rd place in "Game-Day Cheer," 4th in "Overall Game-Day Cheer Champs," and 8th overall in Rally Routine Camp Champs

In addition, 11 Lawrence cheerleaders were selected out of 126 All-American Tryout participants to cheer at special events including The Philadelphia Thanksgiving Day Parade (freshman/sophomores) and the New Years Eve Parade (juniors/seniors) in London, UK! Winners pictured below right (Top Row: Annie Yao; Cassidy Carroll; Kayla Jackson; Destiny Hemmer; Joseph Briggs; and Eliza Covello. Bottom Row: Kaitlyn Prikril; Mana Kurisu; Gianna Pangaldi; Atallah Harris-Gibbons)

Congrats to both teams and to their coaches for a great kick-off to the fall season!

If you know of a student, teacher, or staff member that deserves a little extra recognition for doing something amazing, please send your submission to kroche@ltps.org. We're looking for unique achievements, exciting news, talent highlights, even random acts of kindness! If possible, please include a picture relevant to your submission.
