Mariner Memo
November 22, 2019
This Week at Marine City Middle School...
WOW! What a week! We had a lot going in this last full week of school in November. This week, our Boys Basketball season tipped off, we held our first 2020 Washington DC Trip meeting, and we had our 2nd Positivity Project recognition assembly of the year.
The first Washington DC Parent meeting for the 2020 trip was this past Tuesday and the media center was full of interested families. Thank you to everyone that was in attendance. For those that were unable to attend, an email went out to all 7th grade parents on Thursday afternoon containing the trip details and tentative itinerary. Please check out this paperwork for how to sign up for this amazing trip. Please note that all participants, students and adults, are encouraged to sign up prior to Friday, December 13th. This allows us to finalize the plans and begin the next stage of preparation.
During seminar on Thursday, we held our second P2 recognition assembly of the year. Students in all three grades were selected by the staff and recognized in front of the school for exemplifying the character strengths of CURIOSITY, BRAVERY, and GRATITUDE. In the P2 section of the newsletter you can find the students who received t-shirts and recognition. In the assembly the student body also took in another fun game put on by the Student Council, a blindfolded partner pie-eating contest. Once again, it was the 7th grade that was victorious in the class games and on Friday the whole 7th grade was treated to a cookie for winning the game.
In the spirit of GRATITUDE, the Michigan Junior Honor Society of Marine City Middle School has been working on service project for the month of November. MCMS was the featured school for the East China School District newsletter this week and our service mindset was the focus of the spotlight. If you haven't had a chance, please check it out at the link provided below to hear about what our great kids are doing and to learn a little bit about their amazing teacher-sponsor, Mrs. McLeod.
One final note, before I leave you to peruse the rest of the newsletter. Next week is a short week with the Thanksgiving holiday, with school only on Monday and Tuesday. As we'll have only two days with students next week, our next Mariner Memo will not be published until Friday, December 6th. Until then, I wish you and your families a wonderful and delicious Thanksgiving holiday.

Positivity Project at Marine City Middle School
On Thursday this week, we hosted our second Positivity Project celebration assembly of the year. During these seminar-time based assemblies we recognize the boy and girl from each grade that most exemplifies the character strengths that we learned about over the course of the month. We then play a character game, pitting the grades against each other in a friendly competition. This past month we learned about CREATIVITY, BRAVERY, and GRATITUDE. The students recognized and receiving P2 shirts were:
