Notes from our Social Worker Ms. Calderon- Growth Mindset
Parents and Guardians,
Hello! In this newsletter we will be discussing growth mindset. Growth mindset is the idea that your brain is like a muscle and you can always get better at something and learn new things. Learning happens best when it is done both at school and at home. Below are many ways that you can help your child continue to learn about emotions, through reading about it, talking about it, and practicing it! Thank you and have a great day!
Learn About It
Here are videos to help children learn about growth mindset. They can be found on youtube:
English: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2zrtHt3bBmQ
Spanish: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krCao2ModIo&t=2s
Practice It
Here are some examples of what you can do to practice talking about their emotions:
PK-4th: Practice doing new or challenging things. Talk about how they progress the more they do it (ex: tying their shoes).
Talk About It
Here are some discussion points to help you talk about emotions with your child:
•What does practice makes perfect mean?
•How can you work out your brain?
•What is something new you would like to learn how to do? How can you learn to do it?
