These are the objectives for this week:
Personal
...follow rules, routines, and procedures.
...be proactive.
...tie my shoes.
ELA/Reading
Foundational Skills
- Students will orally blend and segment single-syllable words with up to four phonemes. [RF.1.2b–d]
Language (Grammar)
- Students will identify common nouns that name a person, place, or thing in orally presented phrases and simple sentences. [L.1.1b]
Reading
- As the teacher reads grade level texta aloud, students will identify features of a sentence, as well as answer questions about the key details. [RF.1.1a; RL.1.1; RL.1.6]
- Students will read grade level texts with purpose and understanding and answer written questions about the key details of the story in complete sentences. [RF.1.4a; RL.1.1; RL.1.10; L.1.2b]
Math:
NC 1.OA.A.1
- Use addition and subtraction within 20 to solve word problems involving situations of adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing, with unknowns in all positions, e.g., by using objects, drawings, and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
NC 1.OA.B.4
- Understand subtraction as an unknown-addend problem. For example, subtract 10 - 8 by finding the number that makes 10 when added to 8.
NC 1.OA.C.6
- Add and subtract within 20, demonstrating fluency for addition and subtraction within 10. Use strategies such as counting on; making ten (e.g., 8 + 6 = 8 + 2 + 4 = 10 + 4 = 14); decomposing a number leading to a ten (e.g., 13 - 4 = 13 - 3 - 1 = 10 - 1 = 9); using the relationship between addition and subtraction (e.g., knowing that 8 + 4 = 12, one knows 12 - 8 = 4); and creating equivalent but easier or known sums (e.g., adding 6 + 7 by creating the known equivalent 6 + 6 + 1 = 12 + 1 = 13).

This Week's Schedule

Tuesday- D Day-Music
Wednesday- E Day- Art
Thursday- A Day- STEAM
Friday- B1 Day- Guidance(last week ended up being library due to a switch that was made.)
Planner, Folder, Behavior Colors
Students have a planner. They will be responsible for copying important information into the planner. This is also where their behavior color for the day will be recorded. Please sign the planner each night and return to school the next morning.
Behavior colors are a way to track the choices students make on a daily basis. Every student starts out on green each day. Their choices allow them to move up the chart to blue, purple, and pink or down the chart to yellow or red. If they move down, they will be given a chance to correct the behavior and move back up later so long as it did not involve harm to him/herself or another individual. More information can be found on my teacher page.
Working Snack
We have lunch at 12:35. Therefore, we will have a working snack mid-morning. Please only send in dry snacks (crackers, chips, veggies, etc.) so that the contents do not spill on any work. Water bottles are permitted, but will be stored in cubbies and not on desks. Students may get a drink during breaks and as needed (within reason).
If you would like to donate snack items for the class it is greatly appreicated. We do have peanut allergies present in the class, so please be mindful of that.
Homework
There will not be much official homework this year. Students will be given time in school to practice skills independently. However...
- Reading every night is highly encouraged. Very encouraged. Extremely encouraged. The more a student reads, the more skills are developed and the more confident and fluent the student becomes.
- There will also be CKLA sheets that come directly from our curriculum. These should be completed at home but do not need to be returned to school.
- Finally, students are encouraged to practice their spelling words in a way that is meaningful (and painless) to them. Proof of completion does not need to be sent to school.
- Math practice sheets will be completed at school.
If a student falls behind or chooses to repeatedly not complete the work at school, parent contact will be made and the work will then be sent home for completion.
Habit of the Month (Through the end of October)
Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind
We have entered a new month and will be focusing on a new habit. This month our focus will be on Habit 2: Begin with the End in Mind. Our Words of the Week are Big Rocks. Now that we've learned about setting goals, we will be focusing on "Big Rocks" and identifying our greatest priorities to help us reach our goals.
