CDS - First Program
The Weekly Word from CDS FP - March 4-March 8, 2019
Looking Back
Hello All,
Thank you for joining us for the Term 3 Assembly. We hope you enjoyed seeing the Grade 3 students perform their skipping performance, led by Mr. Tronsgard; as well as the drama performances by Grade 2 and Kindergarten, led by Ms. Jana.
It was the first week of the Spring Season, hence students began new After School Programs as well as new Labs. Several are new choices, so we look forward to seeing how the students are engaged and challenged with these new offerings.
School photos for the FP Yearbook are being taken on Mondays and Wednesdays. Last week, the FP Yearbook group (a Mon/Wed Lab) took part in every role! Facilitated by Ms. Fursova, FP Yearbook students took the photos, organized students, assessed lighting, documented the order of students photographed, etc. They were fantastic! See below for photos.
A reminder to all that with the warmer weather these days, students will soon be back outdoors in the morning, if the temperature is 5 degrees Celsius or warmer, and that is of course provided that the air quality is acceptable. With regards to the air quality, please be reminded that there are eleven air filter units within the first program. There are sensors on each of the eleven machines that measure pm10 as well as pm2.5. These allow us to measure how significant of an improvement the machines have on improving the air quality within the building, which has shown to be quite successful. Middle and High School will soon receive purifiers, too!
I hope you all had a restful weekend, and were able to enjoy being outdoors in the warm weather.
Educationally Yours,
Mr. Hill
Director of First Program

In the Spotlight
This week we are featuring Grade 1F, P.E, the Silent Art Auction, and FP Athletics. Thank you, Ms. Fursova, Mr. Tronsgard, and Mr. Read
Grade1 with Ms. Fursova
This week, grade 1F has begun learning geometry. We reviewed 2D shapes that we know and started learning about polygons and their rules. We learned that polygons’ sides are straight, they have corners, and their sides are connected. To apply what we have learned, we used straws and pipe cleaners to make our shapes. Students decided on the shape they wanted to make, chose the correct number of straws (sides) for that shape and connected them together using pipe cleaners.
Yooseok said, “I will make a decagon. It has ten sides”.
Olivia said, “this is not a polygon now because the sides are not connected”.
P.E. with Mr. Tronsgard
This week, we started our basketball units in P.E. Students are being introduced to all of the different skills in this challenging sport. The Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten students are doing a fantastic job of bouncing and catching the ball with their finger pads as well as passing the ball to their friends.
Shooting also presents a big challenge, but they are finding a lot of success on our 4 foot nets.
Art Auction with Mr. Read
Jumping for Healthy Hearts with Mr. Tronsgard
On February 21st, CDS FP took part in our 3rd annual Jumping for Healthy Hearts event. The day started off with some amazing health presentations by the Grade 4 students, followed by some jumping games, a spectacular Grade 3 skipping performance and finally a collaborative effort to skip for 1 hour straight. Not only did the students get to enjoy an amazing day in the gym, but they were also able to raise nearly 700,000 won for charity. Way to go!
Thank you to all the students for their participation and effort and thanks to the parents at home for their support.
