BWRSD Community Update 7/31/2020
Message from Jonathan Brice, Superintendent of Schools
Dear BWRSD parents and guardians,
I hope that you, your children, and families are well and enjoying the summer. Today, I am pleased to share that our 2020-2021 School Reopening plan has been reviewed by the Rhode Island Department of Education and we are ready to share the entire plan with you. The plan is described below and emphasizes four critical areas; the health and safety of students and staff, providing families with different learning opportunities for students, ensuring a comprehensive academic program for all students, and budget-staffing-policy considerations. Staff are now working to implement the details outlined in the plan.
In addition, we have included a Distance Learning Confirmation survey for families/guardians who have selected distance learning for the start of the school year. We are asking you to confirm your student’s participation in distance learning instead of in-person instruction.
School principals will distribute detailed information in the upcoming weeks about the start of school.
Please continue to email me if you have questions about our reopening plan.
Sincerely Yours,
Jonathan Brice, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
Bristol Warren Regional School District

1. BWRSD Reopening Plan
BWRSD submitted our Reopening Plan to RIDE on July 17, 2020. On July 28, 2020, we received feedback and made revisions. You can read the final Reopening Plan here. We will continue to work with the Reopening Committee to create processes and procedures to ensure the health and safety of our staff and students, and to create a robust and rigorous learning environment for our students.
2. Introduction of KMS Principal Dennis Morrell
BWRSD is pleased to welcome the new principal of Kickemuit Middle School, Mr. Dennis Morrell. Mr. Morrell joins BWRSD from the Johnston School District, where he served as a teacher, assistant principal, and has more than 10 years experience as a middle school or high school principal. Mr. Morrell is pleased to join the KMS staff and will join the KMS Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, August 5, 2020.
3. PTO/Parent Advisory Group Virtual Town Halls with Dr. Brice
This upcoming week, BWRSD will continue Parent Teacher Organizations/Parent Advisory Groups virtual Meetings with Dr. Brice and building principals. 4. Transportation Registration Form (Opportunity to revise and/or register no later
than 8/7)
Please complete this Transportation Registration Form for the 2020-2021 school year.
5. Distance Learning Confirmation Form (please confirm and submit no later than 8/7)
In preparation for the full in-person model (Hybrid at KMS and MHHS), we understand that there are families who are uncomfortable with having their student(s) return to in-person learning for health and other reasons. In order to accommodate our families, we are offering a distance learning option.
** NOTE** Families that select the distance learning option are committing to their child’s participation in distance learning for the first quarter (middle/high school) or trimester (elementary) or for the full year.
Please submit the BWRSD Distance Learning Confirmation Form for ALL children in your family who will require distance learning for the 2020-2021 school year by Friday, August 7, 2020, so we are able to plan for appropriate staffing.
There is no form or application needed if your child(ren) will return to school in person.
