Background Information
Claude Monet was born on November 14, 1840, and grew up in Normandy. He was baptized as Oscar-Claude, but his parents called him Oscar. Monet's father wanted Monet to continue in the family grocery business, but Monet wanted to be an artist. In 1851 he enrolled in Le Harve secondary school of the arts. He took some of his first drawing lessons from Jacques-Francois Ochard. Eugene Boudin became his mentor when they first met on the beaches of Normandy. At age 16 his mother died, and he moved to live with his aunt.
Art Movements
Monet was a main leader in the French Impressionist movement. He started to stray away from the more realism artwork and experiment with lights, colors and nature to bring the new art movement, impressionism.
Floating Ice
My favorite piece i found by Monet is Floating Ice. I like it because it's really pretty and it shows how peaceful nature is. The colors work good together, and i really like all the pastel, light colors.
