Happy New Year! Sparling is in full swing with lots of learning and activities happening! In this newsletter you will find information on our upcoming swimming lessons, the link to the latest superintendent message, information on attendance, and our next School Council Meeting.

We also want to remind all families about the importance of using the crosswalk and avoiding parking in our bus lane. Sparling is very busy during arrival and dismissal times. We have multiple busses, the Boys and Girls Club bus, and our Handivan all arriving and departing. When students see adults not using the crosswalk, they will model this and it can be very dangerous. It is especially dangerous if they walk between the busses. We understand it is a little bit more of a walk, but we ask you to please use the crosswalk or the corner of a street to cross safely. Thank you for your help and understanding.

For those wondering about Pre K and Kindergarten registration for 2023/24, all the information will be coming out at the start of February. Stay tuned!

Regular school attendance is critical to student learning and well-being. When students are late they also miss out of key literacy and numeracy learning times. Each day missed of school can really add up in the overall picture. We are happy to help and assist in any way we can! Please reach out to us here at the school if needed!

We have arranged for our Grade 1 - Grade 5 classes to attend swimming lessons in February. Please watch for permission forms coming home and return to the school ASAP. Below you will see the dates and which classes are attending at those times. There is a small fee for swimming lessons which needs to be paid online through Online Payments. Some of our classes are able to attend 4 lessons and others 3 lessons, which is reflected in the fee amount.

Each year we are required to provide Alberta Education with a signed and dated "Student Verification Form" for each of our students. This year we have an electronic verification form for this process. It will also include our BRSD FOIP and Technology Use form. To access and complete this form, you will need to:

1. Log into the parent portal via your web browser PowerSchool Portal (Google Chrome for example).

2. Click on the SchoolEngage icon. You will be redirected to the SchoolEngage site where you can select your child's name.

3. Click on the 2022-2023 Student Verification Form and then on the blue icon in the first column to review the information.

4. Once you have completed your verification, click on the green submit button.

This is incredibly important and we really appreciate your help in getting this completed quickly.
