IMLEA Monday Minute

2018 CONFERENCE REMINDERS
Please consider presenting; we know we have many wonderful educators with great things to share. Administrators-reach out to them and encourage them; better yet, consider making a team proposal with them!
Trauma-Informed Session Added to September 17 Conference Schedule
Many districts are turning to trauma-informed practices to better understand how to work with students in ways that minimize further stress while increasing achievement. We are pleased to announce that Janie Ulmer from Hamilton Southeastern Fishers Academy will present on this topic the morning of our full conference day, September 17.
Congratulations to Lebanon Middle School on Their STW Redesignation
What a pleasure to attend the STW redesignation ceremony at Lebanon Middle School today! (One of the rare times I've sat next to a mayor!) Student speakers were eloquent, their video presentations creative, the student body attentive, the band and dance team great participants, with community members and district staff there for support. 8th graders at LMS participate in at least two service projects during the year, adding much support to the community in return. Some of the people I talked to cited service learning and PBIS as real difference-makers. The event was also covered in the Lebanon Reporter.
Future issues of the "Monday Minute" will feature our other STW winners.
Schools to Watch Training and Designations
We already have about 25 people signed up for the Schools to Watch training on April 10; this is for schools who are interested, and individuals who would like to become qualified to read the applications and make school visits as part of the designation process. You may still register here; Contact Shirley Wright if you have any questions.
Mt. Vernon Community Schools Becomes First generationOn District
Mt. Vernon Community School Corporation became the first to earn generationOn district designation, with each school participating in the process. To learn more about their activities and the process, you can visit their district webpage, or Beth Smith's article on our IMLEA website.
USING OK GO MUSIC AND VIDEOS FOR SCIENCE, MATH, ART, & MORE
This recent NPR story explains how teachers are using OK Go in the classroom; they heard so much from educators that they have now provided a sandbox with resources and lesson ideas. Let us know if you try any (or already do), or even send a picture!
