KRS Students and Parents Handbook
Madison Education Foundation
The Madison Education Foundation (MEF) would like to thank everyone who participated in our 20th Anniversary Gala on Friday, September 8th. It was a successful fundraiser and a fabulous night out.. some might even call it “the bee's knees!” As always, all funds raised go directly back to our schools. To learn more about MEF, visit www.mefnj.org
Star Assessments
Our first window of Star administration is occurring during the month of September. The Star assessments are diagnostic assessments designed to provide educators and parents with important information about a student's progress. Students in grades 1-5 take the Star reading and/or early literacy assessment as well as the Star mathematics assessment benchmarked for their specific grade. To read general information about the Star assessments, parents are encouraged to visit their family resources page.
Kindergarten teachers administer the Star CBMs (Curriculum Based Measures) in both reading and mathematics. The Fall kindergarten reading assessments assess a student's understanding of letters and their sounds, basic phonological awareness, and early decoding. The kindergarten math assessments include recognizing numerals and their value. Often times the CBMs may be administered in other grade levels, on an as-needed individual basis. For more information regarding the Star CBMs, please click here.
Harassment, Intimidation, and Bullying, Code of Conduct, School Theme
On Monday during all 3 lunches, Dr. Koop reviewed the definition of bullying, the KRS Code of Conduct, the school theme (Kindness Lives at KRS), and the No Place for Hate Pledge with the students. Mr. Levine will continue the discussion throughout the school year during the class guidance lessons. After the students returned to their classrooms, they signed a class paper indicating that they will abide by the No Place for Hate Pledge.
Madison and Chatham Diversity and Cultural Fair
The Madison and Chatham Diversity and Cultural Fair was held on Saturday, September 9, in front Hartley Dodge Hall. Dr. Koop and the other district administrators were in attendance to share information about district diversity and cultural initiatives. Talented musical artists performed during the day. It was a fantastic event!
