Author/Illustrator Dan Santat in Greenville this Thursday!

Fiction Addiction invites all elementary school children and their parents to a fantastic FREE event with Caldecott Medal-winning author and illustrator of The Adventures of Beekle, Dan Santat. He will take readers on the road trip of a lifetime when he discusses his new picture book, Are We There Yet? at a book talk and signing at Fiction Addiction on Thursday, April 14th, at 6:00 pm.

*Note: This event is free and open to the public, but a purchase of Are We There Yet? from Fiction Addiction is required in order to join the signing line. Mr. Santat will sign other books as long as they are accompanied by at least one copy of the new book. Books will be available for sale prior to and at the event. Books may be purchased online, at the store, or by calling Fiction Addiction at 864-675-0540.

The 4th Quarter Reading Challenge is on!

All Fork Shoals students have received their reading logs for the 4th quarter. Students should read as many pages as possible between now and May 20th. Reading logs MUST be turned in no later than Wednesday, May 25th. We’ll have prizes for those who read the most in each grade level, and every participant will receive recognition.

List books (with page numbers) as you complete them. Add your total number of pages read during the 2nd quarter. Please print clearly and total your pages at the end. If you need extra reading logs, click here.

Book of the Week: The Case of the Vanishing Honeybees

The Case of the Vanishing Honeybees: A Scientific Mystery by Sandra Markle was a nominee for the 2015-16 South Carolina Children's Book Award.

The Case of the Vanishing Honeybees is a good book for introducing elementary and middle grade students to the topic of Colony Collapse Disorder. They may have heard that honeybees are disappearing, but, like many adults, they may not know why or what the potential impact could be.

This book attempts to provide possible reasons for CCD, but it also lets readers know that even the scientific community still doesn't fully understand all of the reasons for CCD. A number of factors may be at work, but all can agree that this is a serious problem that could have catastrophic consequences.

This informative book offers a detailed look at honeybees, their life cycles, roles in the hive and larger environment, as well as what could be leading to CCD and how readers can help honeybees to thrive once again.
