New Arts Programs Showcase Addams Talents in 2017-2018
Jane Addams Elementary School welcomed three new arts partners this school year ranging from a California State University Long Beach kindergarten visual arts class to a multi-level dance class that performed at a regional theater recently.
The arts partners added to our campus this year include City Hearts LA, which offers an after-school class mixing ballet, jazz, and hip-hop dance for students in grades 3-5. Addams students performed and hiked through the "garden of theater" or Theatricum Botanicum in Topanga on May 19th thanks to City Hearts (see middle photo above).
CSULB's College of the Arts taught visual and performing arts classes to all kindergarteners. Those classes were taught by arts education college students paired with Addams kindergarten teachers.
Third grade partnered with the Eye on Design program offered by the Long Beach Council for the Arts. Students experimented with “design thinking” and artistic composition during school. Third grade also enjoyed field trips to Cal State University Museum and public arts tours (see left and right). Students created a mosaic.
All fourth grade students learned Latin dance genres include merengue, salsa, and bachata through the Long Beach Council for the Arts. Enjoy a video of the performance for parents below. The new arts programs join the after-school music program, Project Harmony.
Thank you to City Hearts, the Long Beach Arts Council, and CSULB's arts department, and to all of the Addams teachers who partnered with a new organization this year.
