A Message from the WSD Teaching and Learning Department
Please review the communication from the Teaching and Learning Department:
As with our learning plans, we cannot replicate our usual grading and assessment practices while students are expected to learn from home. Given our focus on the well-being of our students, families, and staff and the numerous challenges associated with learning from home, we have developed the following grading and assessment practices to be instituted during our extended school closure:
Ensure students are not penalized for situations outside their ability to control
Remain connected with our students and our families
Keep students engaged, active, and challenged in the learning process
Promote student engagement in the learning of, and exposure to, essential skills throughout the closure.
During this time, school districts across the region and country are challenged with balancing grading and expectations for learning while recognizing this is a unique time. Our approach is designed to minimize negative impacts for students, while also encouraging students to engage and participate in learning that will benefit them now and in the future.
Calendar Update
LVE PTO Corner
The PTO would like to extend a gracious "thank you" to everyone for their participation throughout the course of the year. While the board is sorry to have had to cancel the remaining in-person activities that had been planned, they are very much looking forward to all that is to come during the 2020-2021 academic year.
With that said, the PTO is still active in planning virtual activities and celebrations for our staff and students. The board would like to extend an invitation for students and families to participate in Virtual Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4-8). Please see the attached flyer for suggested daily events. They also have compiled a video to showcase just how much the LVE staff misses their students.

Please note that orders will be filled after the Stay at Home orders have been lifted. However, digital downloads will be available immediately.
Summer Journey and STEM Camp Cancellation
Please note that virtual summer school will still be held for students in grades 9-12.
Yearbook Update
Any yearbook questions should be directed to our yearbook sponsors: Megan Malay (meganmalay@wsdr4.org) or Heather Wagner (heatherwagner@wsdr4.org).
*Please note that we are working with Herff Jones and the WSD to determine the best and safest means through which to distribute yearbooks when they arrive in May. We will communicate that process with families once we have more information.

Census Information
Every 10 years, the Constitution requires that all residing in the U.S. be counted. The 2020 Census counts the population in the United States and five U.S. territories and it is particularly important for school districts. The 2020 Census will inform funding for educational programs that benefit our children, such as special education, after-school activities and school meal programs. Each home received an invitation in March to respond to a short questionnaire online (new!), by phone, or by mail. The information you receive has a special Census ID number to use when you respond and "Count Day" is officially April 1, but you can complete it today. All responses to Census Bureau surveys and censuses are confidential and protected under Title 13 of the U.S. Code. Under this law, the Census Bureau is required to keep respondent information confidential.
Be sure to take the time to fill out the questionnaire - so everyone in the WSD counts! For more information, visit 2020census.gov.
