Hawk Squawk 12/17/20
I prefer bling to masks, but due to our current reality, I am incredibly thankful to my Mom for making and sending me six adorable reversible holiday masks. She knows me well, a few of them even have sparkles. The gingerbread mask was perfect when I recently visited Mrs Graver's 1st Grade Class. All of our first grade classes have been reading, comparing, discussing and writing about gingerbread stories. Today, they presented their gingerbread village creation to families. It was so fun to listen to the students as they enthusiastically shared their jobs and buildings within the community.
I am looking forward to wrapping up this December with HAL Hangouts tomorrow, Friday 12/18. K-2 will meet from 11:30 am to 12 pm, and 3-5 will meet from 12 to 12:30 pm. Students are encouraged to bring their lunch and eat while we learn more about each other. Zoom meeting invitations were sent yesterday. If your family didn't receive one, please contact Lee Gates at email@example.com. Since it's the last day before break, I will be wearing pajamas and my snowflake mask. Please join me!
One of our favorite traditions at Hallinan is the Winter Sing-Along. Mr Haynor, along with a few friends (LOSD Elementary Music teachers), created a fun online Family Sing-Along for your enjoyment. We have included YouTube and Google links below. Happy caroling!
As we close the books on the challenging and unforgettable 2020, I want to thank you, our wonderful families, for your support, resiliency and dedication to your student's learning. I know it's been difficult, yet your students show up and give 100% each and every day. I am so grateful to be part of this incredible community. There is truly no place like Hallinan.
I hope you have a fun and restful holiday season. Make sure to spend some time reading - I highly recommend a good gingerbread book!
Wishing you a happy and healthy new year,

Hallinan Gives Back!
2020 That's a Wrap!
The Hallinan Elementary Renovation Project will bring significant improvements to the forty-year-old facility, including upgrades in safety and security, technology and seismic and infrastructure. Click here for more information.
Hallinan Outside - it's really looking great! The outdoor classroom is getting framed, the garden planter boxes have been built and filled with soil, the underground cistern which receives rainwater runoff from the roof and water pump are ready for action and the flow through planter, which is a plant-based filtration system, is removing pollutants from stormwater. This whole outdoor area is going to be an amazing learning center for our students.
Huge thanks to our DREAM TEAM! They have greatly surpassed my renovation expectations and have been an absolute joy to work with.
