A Glimpse of this Past Week...
This week was full of recognition and spiritual reflection.
We had another wonderful turnout for our Academic Breakfast on Tuesday. Thanks to those of you who attended and mingled with the students and parents. I know that it means a lot to them to see the teachers who nominated them form improvement or excellence.
Chris Stefanick's Reboot event, hosted by St. Mary's, Woodstock, was quite a hit! There were over 950 in attendance, including quite a few Marian students and staff. It was wonderful to share this special experience together as we truly did "reboot" our faith! Chris Stefanick's message included five habits that will shape our Catholic faith...
- Love Yourself
- Pray
- Share the Faith
- Build Authentic Friendships
- and REBOOT!
"Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not come. We only have today. Let us begin."
~ Mother Teresa of Calcutta
A reminder to any departments that have not yet completed and/or submitted your Department Recommendation Google Sheets for students returning for 2018-19. The Guidance Department had asked that these recommendation Google spreadsheets be completed by Friday, January 26, however there are many still not completed. Please attend to these asap so Guidance can begin the next step in the process by meeting with each student and discuss their course options for 2018-19. By not having the department recommendations, it is very possible that students will be misplaced. Thank you for attending to this immediately.
Looking ahead...
Midterms are this week! A couple of other things to remember...
- Make sure that there are a reasonable amount of grades in each of your course gradebooks prior to February 1 (Midterm).
- There must be a grade in every student's slot. If they are missing an assignment there should be NO blanks. Instead, there must be a zero and an annotation referring to the reason for the zero (ie: absent or late) This will ensure that the student is seeing a realistic grade given their current status. It will also give them more of a sense of urgency in needing to make up any outstanding work.
Continuously updated grades...
- provide you with a valid way of monitoring your students' progress
- provide parents and students with a clear indication of their successes and areas for improvement
- athletes will have a valid indicator for eligibility
Thank you.
As you are continuing to work on your UBDs in your department meetings and on your own, remember that our next meeting with Dr. Lee is on Friday, March 16. Remember that she asked for each of you to send her copies of one performance assessment by the beginning of March so she has time to send you some feedback. If you need a refresher about what we learned during our last session, please click here.
HELP NEEDED! We are still looking for a male chaperone for Key Club's field trip to the state convention March 9-11 in Springfield, IL. We continue to do our best to adhere to the Diocesan expectations of needing a chaperone for each gender. Please see Mrs. Kelly as soon as possible if you are able to help out and attend.
Have a blessed weekend and week ahead!
Catholic Schools Week
This year's theme for Catholic Schools Week is Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed. There is no doubt that all of these characteristics are found at Marian on a daily basis. Thank you for ensuring that our school continues to follow our mission ... Welcoming, Proclaiming, Forming, and Sending.
A few reminders about this week's Catholic Schools Week
- Our schedule is altered and is not the same as other all school masses. Please refer to this special CSW Schedule
- Our Countywide mass begins at 10:00 am. There will be many Church Dignitaries attending, including Bishop Malloy and many of our Deanery Priests, so before coming down to Lander's Pavilion, please do a uniform check with your homeroom students (no sweatshirts, tuck in shirt tails, etc) and remind them of reverent behavior for mass.
- This year, the mass hosts are Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School in Cary's staff and students.
- Please refer to the seating chart for the CSW Mass so you know where you and your students are to be seated
- NHS is hosting a Coat Drive. Marian students and staff can bring new/gently used coats, scarves, gloves, and winter hats to any of our Theology classrooms. All of the Deanery elementary schools are also participating, so they will be bringing contributions when they come to Marian for the mass on Thursday. Please allow NHS students out early to organize and assist in this collection.
- MUN members will be leaving for their weekend conference directly after the County Mass MUN Delegates Out Feb. 1-2ndFinally, a big thank you to Amy Deitz, Michael Pipitone, and Father Caliente for all they do to ensure every all school mass is perfect!

Reminder about GCN Training!
Back in August, you should have received an email from support@gcntraining.com titled GCN Mandated Trainings 2017-18. In that email you will find a note describing the way to log in to the GCN online training website. Once in, you will notice that you have a personalized list of trainings that are to be completed by April 2, 2018. These are videos that are required either yearly or periodically (please reference Appendix B in your Faculty Handbook) by staff based on your position here at Marian. This is part of your professional responsibility and important for you to be knowledgeable about, so if you have yet to attend to this, please make this a priority. Suggested times to complete would be during plan periods, over a weekend, in the evenings, or over school breaks. You can do them one at a time... you do not have to take all at once. If you experience trouble logging in, please contact the GCN Tech Team (listed on email) or Ms. Novy.
Once you have completed all of your trainings, please print out your certificate (tab found on your GCN Dashboard), and give Ms. Novy a copy.
