A note from Mrs. Vest
Welcome to the 2018-2019 school year! We hope you have enjoyed a wonderful summer together, and we are so excited to begin this year! This year our school theme is “Ready, Set, Grow!” At Brenham Elementary, our goal is at least a year’s growth for every student - not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well! We are helping to mold our future and our Cubs are definitely more than just a test score or grade.
We know the following behaviors help our students be successful, and we thank you for your willingness to make sure your student: attends school daily. arrives on time, ready for learning. Instruction begins at 8:00 AM. reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills. knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school. Please consider volunteering and joining our Brenham Elementary PTO as our students can greatly benefit from your involvement and contributions to the school’s program and its operations. Thank you for your trust and partnership with us as we work to build on the strong foundation you have started to help your students reach all of their goals!

Core Essentials
Our school believes that your child will spend the next few years here discovering so much about themselves and the world around them. We also believe that we can impact the future of a child by providing the best possible educational experience, including teaching social-emotional skills and promoting good character through our partnership with Core Essential Values.
Using this curriculum, we will teach ten values this school year, one per month, all of which focus on our Big 3:
- Treat Others Right
- Make Smart Decisions
- Maximize Your Potential
You’ll get info each month about what we’re teaching, because we hope you’ll join us in emphasizing these Big Ideas (value words) at home as well. Here are the values we will focus on each month this year:
- Aug - Wisdom: Finding out what you should do and doing it
- Sept - Initiative: Seeing what needs to be done and doing it
- Oct - Contentment: Deciding to be happy with what you have
- Nov - Cooperation: Working together to do more than you can do alone
- Dec - Compassion: Caring enough to do something about someone else’s need
- Jan - Self-Control: Choosing to do what you should even when you don’t want to
- Feb - Service: Lending a hand to help someone else
- March-Individuality: Discovering who you are meant to be so you can make a difference
- April - Hope: Believing that something good can come out of something bad
- May - Perseverance: Refusing to give up when life gets hard

DISMISSAL
The best gift you can give your student is to keep their transportation the same as much as possible and to have them start their regular mode of transportation from the first day so they can learn routines. We will be using the same procedures for car rider line dismissal that we used last year and students will have the same number so this should make the process go more quickly. Additionally, the district has been working with bus dismissal to help make that a quicker process as well. We hope you will see improvements in these areas as we move beyond the first weeks of school.
Counselor's Corner
Hi! I am Misti Davis, the new counselor at BES, and I am so excited to be part of the Brenham Elementary family! What I love most about the elementary level is the genuine curiosity students have in their learning and the world around them. As a School Counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, social and emotional development of all of our students. We have the opportunity to lay a solid foundation that can have a lifetime positive impact on a child’s overall growth and success.
I look forward to offering support to my BES students, staff, families, and community. I will be collaborating and consulting with my new team to benefit and meet the needs of all Brenham Elementary students.
How can you Support BES?
VOLUNTEER
We have SO many opportunities for you to volunteer at BES! We encourage you to get involved in any way you can. If you cannot come in to the school during the day, please ask your child's teacher how you can help.
Our PTO is a wonderful way to get involved as well. They provide many materials and activities for students and teachers. A strong home/school partnership means success for our children. Here is a link to information about our PTO located on our BES website:
