Sherman ISD Kicks-off Texas Reads One Book Event

On Monday, Sherman ISD embarked on a district-wide reading project to celebrate the fifth annual Texas Reads One Book event. The district joined elementary schools throughout Texas to officially kick off the reading celebration geared towards making reading fun. Third and fourth graders at each SISD elementary campus joined Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Jason Garrett, via video, in reading the first chapter of Betty G. Birney’s children’s book Friendship According to Humphrey.

Every student received a copy of the book and will continue the reading activity over the next three weeks. Through the Texas Reads One Book program, SISD is working to build a community of readers at each school and throughout the state with everyone participating together. Throughout this reading project, students will answer daily trivia questions to encourage and reward attentive listening and parents will be encouraged to follow a home reading schedule to read to their child about 15 minutes per night.

Buddy Benches are here!

Buddy Benches were delivered to each SISD elementary campus and will serve as a special place for students to go sit when they want someone to talk to during recess. The benches will also serve as a meeting spot to foster new friendships and positive interaction among students. Thanks to district supporters Mae Patti, Arthropology and The Home Depot for supporting Sherman ISD and #BuildingBearcats!
