Jensen Jaguar Families!

I hope you have all enjoyed our first holiday weekend of the school year. Our next day off will be Fri., 9/27 for Fall Parent-Teacher Conferences. Please take note of our Fall Conference schedule with our early release days below. There will be a Friday lunch service available Tues.-Th. for students who want to buy lunch after they get out of school. Otherwise, students are released from school at the times listed below. There is no lunch recess:

  • Tues., 9/24, Wed., 9/25, & Th., 9/26 Kinder Release @ Noon and 1st-5th gr. Release @ 12:30 p.m.
  • Fri., 9/27 No School-Conferences all-day

I hope you will join me at September's Principal's Coffee & Tea following Friday Flag this Friday. This is an informal gathering where we can talk, ask questions or share ideas. I especially encourage new Jensen families to attend as it is a fantastic opportunity to network with other Jensen families and learn more about our school community and programs. Our whole school benefits when we take the time to collaborate and support one another! If you have a personal concern to share, it would be best to schedule a private meeting with me at another time than this meeting.

September is Attendance Awareness Month. Please take a moment to review the attendance and new CVUSD Independent Study information below.

5th Grade Families, don't forget to join us for the Folk Fest this Thursday evening in the MPR. Information has been sent to you from your child's 5th-grade teacher. Please contact the teachers directly for further information.

Some Updates:

  • Check below for Jensen's Measure G Updates
  • CVUSD students in grades 3-12 are invited to join the district's Mariachi program for the 19-20 school year. An informational meeting will be held on Sept. 11. See the flyer below.

Parking & Loading Zone Safety

A reminder that unfortunately, there is no family parking on school grounds. Please be considerate when coming and going from school to ensure the safety of everyone. The parking lot is reserved for school staff. There are two handicap parking spots located in the staff lot which are available for public use. Please review this information with your children and anyone who may be transporting your children to and from school.

White Zone: Any area painted white in front of the school or in the drop off loop is for loading and unloading during school hours only! NO parking during drop-off and pick-up times.

Green Zone: Any area painted green in front of the school or in the drop off loop has a maximum of 10-15 parking limit during school hours! Be considerate and share the space!

Drop Off-Zone: When driving in the drop-off zone, be patient and drive at a nice slow 5 mph!! Wait in line and follow the instructions of all staff members. Do not pass the cars on the left side and follow the flow of traffic. Your impatience equals a greater chance for an accident.

Students Exit Curbside: Students should be ready to exit the vehicle on their own when you reach the curb. When baby seats are placed on the right back seat, it makes it very difficult for your children to make a quick exit from the car without a lot of maneuvering over the car seat. When backpacks and lunch boxes are in the trunk or drivers need to exit the car to let a student out it stops the drop-off zone traffic and backs things up. Please plan ahead and be prepared!

Thank you for your cooperation!

September is Attendance Month!

CA Education Code requires that students attend school 180 days unless they are ill or are on short term independent study due to extenuating circumstances.

Absences due to vacation are considered unexcused absences and cause your child to miss valuable instructional time. Please also note that extended unexcused absences of three days or more are referred to the School Attendance Review Team (SART). Although we understand the importance of family trips and vacations, we ask families to please plan trips during school holidays and vacations so that your child will not miss valuable instructional time.

Tardies also impact your student. Walking in late to class day after day can affect your child's self-esteem as well as a loss to instructional time. If you are having trouble getting your child out the door in the morning, please contact Ms. MacLean. Together we work on a plan to support your family. If you personally are having a hard time getting out the door in the morning, please take the necessary steps to adjust your schedule, make a family plan and communicate any needs/issues with the school. We can only achieve success when we work together and each do our part!

For more information on the importance of daily attendance, please see the Attendance Works handouts below in English, Chinese and Spanish.

Independent Study

Please click the link to review the updated CVUSD board policy on independent study.

  • Independent studies must be 5 days and no more than 10 days.
  • No Independent Studies are granted during the first 10 days of the school year.
  • No Independent Studies are granted for the last 15 days of the school year.
  • A minimum of 10 days prior notice is required to request an Independent Study. An Independent Study form must be completed no less than 10 days prior to the requested Independent Study.
  • Students granted Independent Study will be expected to complete daily written assignments in all subject areas which are due the first school day following the end of the contract.

A Note From the Office: Student Clothing Donations Needed for Health Office

The health office is running low on usable clothing for girls and boys when there's been an accident. The health office will gladly accept donations of clothes in all children's sizes. We'll even take clean, gently used underwear and socks for girls and boys.

The best types of pants are sweats and leggings since they are stretchy!

This is great way to make room for new school clothes!

Thank You!

Mrs. Disher

Jensen Measure G Updates

During the summer our Measure G worked consisted of demo and replacing of the poured in place (PIP) playground soft fall material for the playground closest to the Science Room. The second playground with the wood chips, closest to the field, was demoed and the delivery of the base rock and heavy equipment was completed before school started. The construction team has completed the concrete pour and everything is nearly ready for the soft fall turf contractor to come. However, when all the bark was removed the project manager discovered that the paint on the bases of the playground structure was very chipped. We decided that it was in the best interest of the project to do a quality job and repair the chipped paint before the turf is brought in. This will extend the project by an additional week. I will continue to provide updates as they are available.

Upcoming Jensen Measure G Work:

  • Proposed Library, Resource Room and staff room/office reconfiguration
  • Painting-new exterior color scheme
  • Staff parking lot solar array/panels.

You will be kept up to date as more information becomes available. If you have any questions, please contact Principal MacLean.

Lost and Found

The red lost and found bin is located in front of the office. Please check lost and found regularly as all items will be donated on the last Friday of the month. If an item has a name written on it, the item will be taken to the classroom. On occasion each month, the lost and found will be displayed by the office to encourage pick up of items. Students are not to bring items of value to school unless done in coordination between the classroom teacher and the family as we are not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Playground Use

A friendly reminder that our playgrounds are open during the school day only to our Jensen students. We ask that you not bring your younger children to play on the playgrounds during the school day. Adventure Time Day Care uses the playground after school and therefore is reserved for their use.

Immunization Requirements for 2019-2020

Please take note of the changes made by the California Department of Public Health related to immunization requirements for the 2019-2020 school year.

Personal and religious exemptions are no longer valid for Immunization Exemptions.

Only exemptions written by a California Licensed Physician are permitted.

Jensen Ranch PTA Updates

Dear Jensen Ranch Families,

The Jensen Ranch PTA is still looking for someone to chair our Community Outreach Program (our Thanksgiving Food Drive and Holiday Adopt-A-Family). Through our efforts thus far, we still do not have anyone to fill this position. Community Outreach is a Castro Valley program that helps out local Castro Valley families in need. This position serves as a liaison between the school and the community organization to collect food and donated items.

Your support is vital for the success of our school, so we are encouraging parents to voluntary contributions to the PTA, so we can continue to make improvements. Donations are not required, however, your one-time voluntary tax-deductible contribution of $150.00 per child can help achieve our goal. If you are unable to donate the suggested amount, any amount you can donate is welcomed and appreciated. Additionally, if your employer offers a matching grant program, we encourage you to submit the necessary paperwork with them.

Become a voting member of the Jensen PTA! The cost is $20 per person and your membership affords you the right to vote on critical programs and events run by the PTA at our association meetings. Stop by the school office to pick up all necessary forms or join/donate online at

Thank you so much for your continuing support!
