NEA's Read Across America Day (March 2, 2018)
What is NEA's Read Across America?
What is the purpose of NEA's Read Across America?
Motivating children to read is an important factor in student achievement and creating lifelong successful readers. Research has shown that children who are motivated and spend more time reading do better in school.
Share your Shelfie on March 2nd.
This year, on Read Across America Day (March 2nd), NEA is calling upon our educators and supporters to share which childhood book meant the most to them. To participate, simply visit the library, take a picture with the book of your choice, and post your “shelfie” on a public social media platform. When you post your photo using #Shelfie and #ReadAcrossAmerica, we’ll share your creative submission on our social channels and feature it on our website.
Read Across America Facebook Live Event
On Thursday, March 1st, join NEA President Lily Eskelsen García as she hosts a live Q&A with award-winning authors and 2018 Read Across America Ambassadors Gene Luen Yang, Kwame Alexander, and Jesse J. Holland! They will also be joining us on March 1 at NEA headquarters in DC for a reading event with Reading is Fundamental.
Have questions for Kwame, Gene, and Jesse? Submit them via the comments section on our RSVP page then watch them answered LIVE on March 1.
