My Digital Footprint

By Tim Lynch

1. What is a digital footprint and why is it important?

  1. A digital footprint is all of the things that are on the internet that are connected to you. The main portion of your digital footprint is going to be social media. It is important to have a positive digital footprint because it can help you get a job or change the way people look at you. For example if you were to go and get a job and the google your name and inappropriate things come up they probably won't give you the job.

2. What does your Digital Footprint consist of? What tools do you use and for what purpose?

2. I use Snapchat, Instagram, and Youtube. I also have a twitter and Linkedin but I do not use them at all. I mostly use Snapchat and instagram for posting things and talking to friends. I am mainly friends with people that I know and I also follow bmx or snowboarding brands or companies. I have some friends that know but that's a very few amount I go on once in awhile depending what it is like snapchat I use everyday because it's a good way to communicate with my friends. I post pictures and videos of me riding my bike or snowboarding. I think all of this have a positive impact on my footprint because there is not anything bad on them or nothing that will hurt my reputation.

3. What impact does/can your footprint have on your future?

3. Your digital footprint can make a very big change on your future. For example it can be harmful because it can keep you from going to college, getting a job, or it can affect the way people look at you. A good example of what can be harmful would be like mean comments that make fun of people or pictures of you smoking or drinking at parties with a comment section filled with bad works If it has a positive effect it can show what you have achieved in life and how responsible you are boosting your chances of getting a job or going to a good school when they interview you.

4. What can you do to continue to improve your online identity

4. I can keep posting things that are not inappropriate and stay away from anything that can harm my reputation like doing bad things and then posting about it or posting mean comments on a post. something that can impact my digital footprint for the better would be talking about things that you have done in your life that are good such as helping at an adoption center or cleaning a backyard or park and then posting about it.

5. What’s the most important thing you’ve learned this semester about maintaining a positive Digital Footprint?

5. I learned that things that you do online can have a very big effect in the real world and possibly change your life for the better or worse.
