Ms. B's Briones Buzz
Wednesday Edition - September 30, 2020
Once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat!
Dear Briones COMMUNITY,
I emphasize the word community because that is exactly who we are. A strong, diverse, supportive, and vibrant community of people who care deeply about our students, our staff, our families, our school. Briones spirit and connections run deep. That is comforting to know during this time of change and transition.
Through it all, I am reminded that this is temporary. Every Bobcat, whether in the DL or hybrid program will remain a Bobcat! Families in both DL and hybrid programs will receive The Buzz, the eNews, and messages about events and activities on UpToUs.
For those of our Kindergarten and first-grade families who have not yet submitted their surveys (they are due today at 5:00 PM), I have included some additional information below from our Board meeting last night. I have also included some tips for helping your children become expert hand-washers, mask-wearers, and physical distancers, who practice good "hand awareness".
Once a Bobcat, always a Bobcat!
Warmly,
Katy
FDL/Hybrid Program Information
The following are items that were agreed upon by the Board at last night's meeting:
- There was a 5-0 vote to approve the reopening plan that was presented by the district.
- Two amendments were added: The district shall convene a collaborative committee of district staff and teachers so that teachers can provide feedback on reopening plans, and site safety plans must be clearly communicated.
- It was also decided that families who do not submit a survey by the deadline ( for K/1 families the deadline is today at 5:00 PM) will automatically be enrolled in the DL program.
- The Board will decide in January whether or not to provide an additional option to switch programs at that time.
- I have received quite a few questions about what can be done so that students can stay with their current teachers, so I am re-emphasizing the following for clarity:
There are no guarantees in either program that you will stay with your child's teacher. There is an increased likelihood that you will have a teacher and classmates from Briones if you choose the hybrid program, however, the teacher may not be the one you have currently. Classes and teachers in both programs depend on the number of students in each grade level that choose each program. The FDL program needs to take into account how many students from each grade level across the district choose this option before forming classes and assigning teachers.
