Sherburn Hungate Weekly News - Spring Term 2 - Issue 6

Easter Special Edition

A word from Mr Broom.

It's been a truly wonderful final week of our Spring Term at Sherburn Hungate. Our children have achieved so much in the past 12 weeks and it was great to look through their work at the beginning of the week and see the huge amount of progress that many of them have made.

I gave out 77 certificates for 100% attendance this term! That's 10 more than last term which is a tremendous achievement. Thank you to everyone for your effort with our attendance drive. It's certainly starting to pay off in pupil progress.

We held our Easter Assembly on Tuesday and I've included the full recording for you all to enjoy. The actual performance on the day was electric and we gave out some prizes to some really creative egg decorators too!

Over the next couple of weeks, I hope you take the chance to spend some time together as a family and try not to eat too much chocolate. For me, I'm heading to Scotland for a few days with Mrs Broom and the boys. I'm also really looking forward to our Summer Term. We've lots planned.

Have a great holiday.

New Class Teacher Appointment

I'm delighted to announce that after a successful day of interviews, we had the pleasure in appointing Mr Greg Kelly as our new Upper Key Stage Two teacher. Mr Kelly will join us in September and his skills in Music, Sport & Nature will bring a new dynamic to our teaching staff team.

SATs Dates

The Key Stage 2 testing period for our Year 6 children will be week commencing Monday 14th May, Key Stage 1 testing for our Year 2 children takes place throughout May, and Phonics screening for our Year 1 children (and some Year 2 children) takes place week commencing 11 June. If you have a child in Year 2 or Year 6, please make sure you don't book any term time holidays during this period. It's really important to them and us that they are in school to take the SATs assessments. Thank you.

Easter Egg Raffle

I am delighted to announce that our Easter Egg raffle raised a whopping £112.00. Thank you to Elmet Lions and Tesco for donating the prizes. The winners were Carter Horn & Jack Taylor.

NSPCC Danceathon

You may recall we held a sponsorship event in support of our NSPCC Keeping Safe campaign. We managed to raise £395.15 towards the NSPCC. Thank you everyone for your support.

Nut Allergy Information

We now have a number of children in school who suffer from allergies to nuts. Please ensure that for those preparing a pack up that you check that nuts are not found in the products that your children bring to school. Thank you for your support on this matter.

Elmet Lions Glasses Collection

We are still collecting unwanted glasses (those you wear on your eyes!) for the Elmet Lions. These are then sent to the third world to tackle blindness.

It's important that children attend school regularly and at Sherburn Hungate we recognise that excellent attendance leads to excellent achievement. Fact!

Congratulations to our Year 1 children who are our attendance champions in school this week with 100%! Our average attendance this week is 95.1%. This is 0.9% below the National Average. Let's hope that we quickly recover after the Easter break.

We have a small number of children whose attendance is well below the national expectations. These children are known as persistently absent when their attendance falls below 90%. I will be making telephone calls to parents of these children.

Thank you for your continued support with our attendance drive. It is really appreciated.
