Skyview Community Service Day
Wednesday, December 21, 2016
Each year our school community celebrates the pillar of citizenship on our community service day. We sponsor charities and ask that each team sign up to bring in items for a specific charity. Teams then hear from representative speakers about their assigned charity, create cards for local hospital patients and enjoy a guest reader from around the district.
Below find information for each team and the organization they are sponsoring:
Storm Chasers - Diamonds in the Ruff (dog recue) - dog food, paper towels, baby wipe, dog treats, kong toys, peanut butter, large trash bags
Comets and Team USA - Ronald McDonald House – gloves, scarves, hats, children’s sweatpants, slippers, socks, healthy breakfast bars, granola bars, single-serve soups, individually wrapped snacks, juice boxes
Mountaineers - The Mitzvah Circle Foundation (benefiting families in crisis) – children’s socks, children’s shoes, toothpaste, soap
Constellations and Stars - Arthritis Foundation – classrooms will be holding a spare change drive
Astronomers and Galaxy - Norristown Hospitality Center – “paper drive” – paper towels, toilet paper, tissues (boxes and individual packs), lunch sized napkins, copy paper
Celestials - DuPont Children’s Cardiac Unit – infant sized onesies, baby caps
Thank you for your support of our annual community service day!
Study Island
Beginning in December, all 5th and 6th graders will use the web-based program Study Island. Study Island is an online learning resource that will help students with standards mastery in the area of English Language Arts.
Students will have one assignment per week to complete. In general, every Friday, students will be assigned either a Reading or a Writing homework assignment on Study Island that must be completed by the next Friday. Students who do not have access to a computer at home will be able to complete these assignments via print copy. Please let your child’s teacher know if your child will need a print copy of assignments. These assignments are meant to support and reinforce the learning occurring in Skyview Reading and English classes.
Study Island can be accessed from our school website (under the “quick links” section): http://www.methacton.org/Domain/732. All students have received their username and password in class.
Thank you for your support of our educational community!
Lost & Found Items will be donated over winter break! Please be sure to check the lost & found (in the cafeteria) prior to December 23rd!

Items dropped off at school - procedure highlight
In an effort to emphasize student responsibility, the office will not be making deliveries to classrooms. When an item is dropped off prior to 8:45 a.m. the office will call the homeroom for student to come get item. Children will be encouraged to check in the office if they believe something is being dropped off for them. (Please know that any time a child calls home from the office for an item they are instructed to check back in the office for the item.) Any items dropped off between 8:45 and 11 a.m. (and not picked up) will be brought to the cafeteria for student pick up during lunch.
*Students picking up musical instruments must do so in the main office.
