WHY ARE ATTENDANCE CODES IN 6TH BLOCK ON SKYWARD?
ATTENDANCE INFORMATION
In an effort to assist parents in "reading" the Skyward attendance, we want to provide clarification. Due to the hour off campus lunch for juniors and seniors, Skyward has attendance for 6 blocks. Skyward does not have the flexibility to accommodate a 3A and 3B columns. We are receiving many, many phone calls from freshman and sophomore parents regarding the "6th block" attendance. Third block is divided into two blocks of attendance. Column 3, is 3A and Column 6 is 3B. If an absence (U) or a Tardy (Z) is in one of these columns, this means your student was not present in their required class on the flip side of their lunch.
Parents can be supportive by checking attendance regularly. Freshman and Sophomores DO NOT have off campus lunch nor do they have one hour for lunch.
Please refer to the picture below.

PROM - APRIL 27TH
PROM ATTIRE
As the excitement for the upcoming Prom builds, we would like to remind all attendees of the dress code in place to ensure a formal and elegant atmosphere for this special occasion.
In an effort to maintain the formality of the event, we kindly request that no jeans be worn to the Prom. Instead, we ask that gentlemen adhere to a minimum dress code of dress pants and a suit jacket. For ladies, we recommend dresses or professional attire. If you have specific questions or need clarification, please contact Shannon Eidam-Dyer at seidamdyer@ortn.edu

ORNL FEDERAL CREDIT UNION COMMUNITY ART & MURAL PROGRAM
ORNL Federal Credit Union is excited to bring back its Community Art & Mural Program in 2023–2024. The program provides local artists and school art programs the opportunity to showcase their creativity in a unique fashion: by painting a large structure visible from a main access road in Oak Ridge.
Introduced in 2017, the Community Art & Mural Program was created to support initiatives that make the arts accessible to all and help our communities thrive.
GOALS
To support the Credit Union’s Core Community Values and Purpose—Together, We Thrive.
To recognize and highlight student artists, local artists, and non-profit arts programs.
To create a public art display that is accessible to all.
To enhance the beauty of our region.
To invest in community improvement programs.
PROGRAM DETAILS
The program is an open competition for Oak Ridge school students to submit designs to be displayed on a cinderblock wall. The wall surrounds a generator situated on the campus of ORNL FCU’s main headquarters located at 221 S. Rutgers Avenue.
The competition allows for local school students to submit artwork for a chance to not only have their design recreated on a large scale, public platform, but to win a $100 cash prize for the student (or team) and a $500 cash prize for their school’s art programs.
The competition is open to students and/or art programs in the Oak Ridge school system. Contest categories are grades K–4, 5–8, and 9–12. There will be one winner from each grade category. Artwork can be designed by an individual or be a collaborative effort by a group of students. Finished entries must capture and/or represent the stated.
Students will have between December 1, 2023 and January 31, 2024 to submit their artwork. A panel of judges will select and announce the winning designs by March 15, 2024. The designs will be painted in the spring of 2024 by local artist, Bryan Wilkerson, who will choose placement based on orientation and scalability. Wall sizes are: 38.5’ x 15’ area facing S. Rutgers Avenue; 38.5’ x 15’ area facing N. Purdue Avenue; and 19.5’ x 15’ area facing ORNL FCU headquarters.
THEME
The subject matter for the mural should capture the idea of “new beginnings.”

UPDATED TNPROMISE/FAFSA INFORMATION - PLEASE READ
As you may know, the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has been soft launched at StudentAid.gov! During this time, the 2024-2025 FAFSA will be available for short periods of time while Federal Student Aid monitors site functionality, performs maintenance and makes technical adjustments to improve user experience. If students are able to submit the 2024-2025 FAFSA during this time, please encourage them to save their confirmation email for their records! If the form is unavailable when students try to access it, please ask them to exit and try again later. TN Promise students are required to submit the 2024-2025 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by 11:59 PM on May 15, 2024 to maintain scholarship eligibility!
Below are a few tips we have shared with students to ensure they have all of the information needed to successfully complete the application!
- The application must be completed at StudentAid.gov; students should not use any other websites for completion.
- Students should select the 2024-2025 FAFSA. If the incorrect year’s FAFSA is completed, even by the May 15, 2024 deadline, students will become permanently ineligible for TN Promise.
- The items below are needed to complete the application:
- Student and parent 2022 tax information
- Student and parent will each need a verified FSA ID. If either do not have a verified FSA ID, they will need to create one before completing the 2024-2025 FAFSA. Students and parents will use their FSA IDs to log in and electronically sign the FAFSA each academic year. For a step-by-step guide on how to create an FSA ID, please click here or follow the instructions below!
- Students/parents will need their respective Social Security Number, a valid email address and other personal information to complete the application.
- Visit StudentAid.gov! Then, click Create Account in the upper right-hand corner.
- Select Get Started to begin filling in personal information. It is extremely important that accurate information is entered!
- Once an FSA ID is created, it must be verified by the Social Security Administration (SSA). This process may take up to 7 business days!
- Once student and parent FSA IDs are verified, they are ready to file the 2024-2025 FAFSA!
NED MCWHERTER SCHOLARS PROGRAM
The 2024-2025 Ned McWherter Scholars Program application officially opens on January 1, 2024. The application is completed through the TSAC Student Portal. Students applying for the 2024-2025 Ned McWherter Scholars Program will be required to:
- Attain a 32 composite ACT score or 1430 SAT score which places them in the top 3% of test takers nationally; and
- Earn at least 3.75 on a 4.0 scale high school GPA, at the end of the semester prior to the semester of graduation.
The 2024-2025 Ned McWherter Scholars Program application will close on February 15, 2024. The applicant’s high school transcript must be received by the application deadline at McWherter.Info@tn.gov or uploaded to a secure TN Cloud folder with the password MCWHERTER.

COLLEGE APPLICATION TOOLKIT
SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY
Here's a link to potential scholarships available through the East Tennessee Foundation.
There are 2 specific scholarships for Oak Ridge High School students: Brad Sturm and Rotary of Oak Ridge College Founders.
However, there are also other scholarships you might be eligible for depending on your college major.
UPDATED INFORMATION FOR THE ETF SCHOLARSHIP - EXTENSION DUE TO SNOW ABSENCES
To be eligible for ETF need-based scholarships applicants are normally required to upload the Student Aid Report (SAR) and the Student Aid Index (SAI) from their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Because the government is significantly delayed in processing FAFSAs, those documents will not be required of students applying for ETF scholarships for 2024-2025 academic year.
If a student’s FAFSA has been processed, please have them upload the SAR and indicate their SAI in the spaces provided.
If a student’s FAFSA has not been processed, they can leave those fields blank on the application. Students who do not upload FAFSA information will not be penalized in the scholarship awarding process.
The ETF Scholarship deadline has been extended to March 1. Please remind students to submit their application (with or without the FAFSA information) by March 1st.
Thank you!
