Humanitas Magnet
January and February Updates
Thank you for your support.
We are glad to be back in the classroom with our students. We made some important progress on class size caps and we were successful in getting a full time nurse for every school and a teacher librarian for every middle and high school. Most importantly, we started a valuable conversation about the future of public schools in our city. We hope the momentum will lead to the election of more school board members who support our community schools.
Tutoring and homework help
If your child needs extra support in any of their academic classes, there is tutoring in the library on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 3:15-4:30.
In addition, all Humanitas Magnet teachers encourage students to come to them when they have questions or need help.
Parents are welcome to email teachers with questions of their own. The link to our addresses is here: https://www.granths.org/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=456737&type=d&pREC_ID=staff
Ninth graders need to turn in college transcripts.
Our ninth graders completed their first college classes last semester. In order to take another course this semester, they need to turn in an official college transcript to Ms. Mata. They were told about this two weeks ago but most of them have not obtained their transcript yet. The fastest way to get their transcript is to go to the Admissions Office at LAVC. Students need to bring their LAVC student ID number, a photo ID, and $10. We need them ASAP.
The spring semester at LAVC starts on February 4.
You can find more information here. https://www.lavc.edu/admissions/View-Grades-Transcript.aspx
Student of the Month Breakfast
We are finally getting caught up on our Student of the Month Breakfasts! If you received an invitation to the breakfast (cancelled in December and then again last week) we would like you to join us at 8:15 on Friday, February 8th.
WASC
Every high school must be accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Grant High School is going through it's accreditation review in February. Our principal, Ms. Damonte, has requested that we invite some of our parents to meet the committee. If you would like to be invited to meet with the WASC team, please let me know.
