The Lighthouse of Alexandria
A Wonder of the Anicent World
The Lighthouse of Alexandria
The lighthouse of Alexandria was built around 290 B.C.. It was built by Sostratus of Cnidus, in Alexandria, Egypt. The reason why it doesn’t exist anymore because it was severely damaged by two earthquakes. Its purpose was to fight against invading ships and to protect Egypt. It’s a wonder because it was impressive in construction, it was 384 feet high, and legends claim that its light (a reflective mirror) was visible in the harbor from 35 miles away. It had 3 floors : the first one was square, the second was octagonal and the third was circle shaped.
