Meet the Teacher

Connor Flynn, Secondary P.E/Health Teacher

Hello everyone! My name is Connor Flynn and I am the new PE/Health teacher for Sargent High School and Middle School. I was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and moved to the Boulder area shortly after. I went to college at Adams State University where I graduated with my Bachelors degree in 2021, as well as my Masters degree in 2022 while I was there. I played baseball here at Adams State for five years and I am currently coaching their JV program as well. In my spare time I love fishing and watching all different kinds of sporting events. I can't wait to get this school year started and I am very excited for the opportunity to be teaching your children this year!

Deanna Floriani, Secondary School Counselor

Hi everybody. My name is Deanna Floriani and this is my first year as Sargent's Secondary School Counselor. I am also the High School Student Council Advisor and the Gifted and Talented Coordinator. I graduated from Sargent High School in 2016, and I earned my bachelor's degree in Clinical Psychology from Adams State University in 2019. I am currently working on my master's degree in Counselor Education from Adams State University. During my undergraduate career, I served as Adams State's chapter president of Psi Chi (The International Honor Society in Psychology), a teaching assistant for Introduction to Statistics and Research Methods in Psychology, a research assistant, and a psychology tutor. I am so excited to be back at Sargent School and have the ability to apply my experiences and knowledge to help students. If you ever have any questions please let me know!

John Plane, K-12 Tutor

Hi!!! My name is John Plane. I am a Paraprofessional/tutor for Sargent schools. I have been in education for 3 years now and I absolutely love it. Hindsight is always 20/20 but I wish I would have started this career years ago. I absolutely love working with children. I love watching them grow in their schooling. I am thankful to be a small part of their academic success. I look so forward to being apart of the Sargent academic community. GO FARMERS!!!!

McKinley Miner, Elementary Kindergarten Teacher

Hello there! My name is McKinley Miner and this will be my first year teaching, as a Kindergarten teacher at Sargent Elementary! I am very familiar with Sargent, as I grew up in the valley and actually graduated from Sargent in 2017. I then went on to attend Colorado State University where I got my undergraduate degree in Human Development and Family Studies, with concentrations in both Early Childhood Professions and Prevention and Intervention Sciences. After graduating in the spring of 2021, I continued my studies at CSU and received my Masters in Early Childhood Education. I am so grateful for this opportunity and can not wait to learn and grow alongside my students. I love the sense of community that Sargent has established and am excited to be back for a wonderful school year!

Sami Cotten, Elementary PE Teacher

My name is Sami Cotten, the new Elementary PE Teacher and Head Volleyball Coach for Sargent High School. My husband and I both graduated from Sargent and have spent the last 6 years in Grand Junction, where I've been teaching and coaching. We are fairly new "fur parents" of an adopted puppy named Rezi. It feels good to be home! Go Farmers!

Deanna Bartee, Secondary Business Teacher

I am a native to the San Luis Valley and a very energetic person. I am passionate about education, especially business education. Over the past 13 years I have taught business at the high school and college levels. Between this career and our family’s homeschooling journey I have taught every grade level from preschool through graduate level courses.

I am also an entrepreneur and together our family has many businesses. My husband, Dale, and I farm northeast of Center. We have two sons: Tyler (15) has a growing flock of sheep, and Kolby (11) raises pigs. During COVID, market demand encouraged us to start an additional business through which we now sell our beef, pork, and lamb directly to consumers. We also own and manage several short and long-term rentals around the valley. Although these businesses keep us busy, they help my teaching stay current and relevant to the benefit of my students.

It is an honor to be a part of this community and to contribute to our students’ growth and development.
