A Note from our Principal
Dear Thornhill Community,
Greetings! I am hoping that you have had the opportunity to enjoy some of these sunny days. I am happy to report some good news to you today! Effective Monday March 8, our SCHOOL YARD will be open from 3:00pm- 6:00pm Monday through Friday. See attached letter for COVID SAFETY PROTOCOLS.
Mandatory Parent Survey — Thank you to all of you that have filled out the survey. This information is extremely important to have. We still need 20 families to complete the survey.
Please see link below.
Take Care,
Mr. Daubenspeck

DUE TODAY!!! Mandatory OUSD Student Preference Form/Survey
From Ms. Sherry:
Thank you to those who have already filled out the form. The answers will help OUSD plan for the possibility of re-opening before the end of this current school year. If the Intent to Return Form is NOT filled out, your student will not be able to return for in-person learning until next fall! PLEASE TAKE TIME TO FILL OUT THE FORM - there are basically only 2 questions!
There are more logistics for reopening than anyone of you could imagine. Thank you for your patience and willingness to help us out by completing the form.
Note that if you have more than one child in grades TK-5, that you'll need to submit a separate entry for each child.
From our OUSD Superintendent:
Our ability to bring students back to campus for in-person learning is dependent on several factors, including COVID cases continuing to decline. It also depends on how many of our staff and students would like to return for in-person learning and how many wish to remain in distance learning.
At this time, we are asking all TK-5 families to answer two questions in the Mandatory Student Preference Form for each of their TK-5 students TODAY, Tuesday, March 2, 2021. This will let us know if you prefer that your student continues with distance learning for the rest of the school year, OR if you prefer your student return to in-person learning, if it becomes available. Please visit www.ousd.org/reopening2021/form for more information and resources to help inform your decision.
This form is required for current TK-5 students. Families with students in Pre-K and grades 6-12 will be contacted later.
In Community,
Kyla Johnson-Trammell
Superintendent

California Healthy Kids Parent Survey (CHKS)
Please complete the CHKS 2021 Parent Survey! This survey is an opportunity for you to help Thornhill by sharing your opinions about it. We want to learn about this school’s efforts to promote academic success and well-being for every student. We also want to know how well the school is supporting you to be a true partner in your child’s education. If you have more than one child at this school, you may either fill out a separate survey for each child or just focus on the experience of one of your children at Thornhill.
Thank you,
Sherry Kaetzel, Thornhill Secretary

Kindergarten Heritage Dolls
Are you a new family to Thornhill? Did your child arrive to our school community after Kindergarten and would you like them to have a Heritage Doll hung in the Multipurpose Room? We want to make sure every Thornhill child/family is represented on the walls of the Multipurpose Room! When students return to campus, the dolls will be there, ready to greet them.
All Heritage Dolls will be due the last week of March. Email bonnie.forbes@ousd.org for more information.
Thank you!
Bonnie Forbes, Kindergarten Teacher

About the Thornhill Newsletter
The Thornhill Parent-Faculty Club (PFC) eNews team publishes this weekly newsletter each Tuesday in the school year to communicate school, PFC and OUSD news, events and information.
Email submissions to our Newsletter Chair, Jill Evans, at newsletter@thornhillschool.org by 8 p.m. Thursday for approval—nothing sent after this will be included in the following week’s newsletter unless there are extremely compelling extenuating circumstances. It’s fine to include text in the body of the email with links and no formatting, and attach photos preferably as 150 x 150, 72 dpi JPG or GIFs only (not embedded in email or Word file). Submissions may be edited for spelling, grammar, brevity and clarity. Advertising and items not related to Thornhill are not accepted, as we need to keep the newsletter focused on need-to-know info for the community.
THANK YOU to everyone who submits articles and to PFC Board Members, Teachers, VPs of Communications Erin Proudfoot & Evie Nagy, PFC Presidents Rex Crum & Alicia Streight, and Principal Steve Daubenspeck. Member of Oakland Unified School District (OUSD).
