Finding My Stories
The purpose of this lesson is for students to begin the process of recording ideas for writing – called “Writing Territories” – in their Interactive Notebooks. This list will be utilized in this unit of study and throughout the course.
What Makes a Memoir?
This lesson introduces the concept of memoir as a genre of writing and makes distinctions between memoir and autobiography.
Students will consider the thoughts and feelings and insights that make memoir a unique reading experience and will read two memoirs from Gary Paulsen’s My Life in Dog Years as models for these understandings.
Pictures
Students will need to bring 3 photographs from home that depict them doing something, somewhere. (Portrait-type photos are not recommended for this assignment.) They will need these for class next week.
Grammar
We will be studying the parts of speech this week. We are reviewing nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, and pronouns.
