LPS Star Award - Updated 5/2

Just in time for Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week 2022, the LPS Education Foundation is pleased to offer a new recognition program called Star Awards!

Are you looking for a unique way to thank a Livonia Public Schools staff member? A Star Award honors any LPS employee who has made a difference in a student’s, family’s or fellow staffer’s life. For a $25 donation to the Foundation, a personalized, color certificate will be presented to your honoree, and they will receive recognition on the Foundation's website and social media platforms as well as the district's social media platforms. The certificate will be personalized with your praise to show this LPS employee how much they mean to you!

Please click on the link below to send a Star Award to an awesome LPS staff member!

https://bit.ly/LPSEF-StarAward

Donations received will be used to help fund the Foundation’s Grant Program so all funds will be going back into the schools to provide programs and supplies for our students and staff.

Thank you for your support!

Please let us know if you have questions.

Planning for 2022-2023

For this upcoming fall, if you are moving or attending a different school not located in Livonia Public Schools, please email our school secretary at hpac2@livoniapublicschools.org so we can make sure your child's educational files are prepared for your child's next school and we can accurately account for this in our projected enrollment and staffing plans.

Reminder to send in your donation towards the 4th grade gifts (a shirt and sign). We will be collecting until the end of April. We are currently about 1/4 towards what we need to get each child a shirt and sign. Thank you to the parents that sent in extra to help cover costs if anyone is unable to afford it.

Stacey Watters is able to accept cash donations, you can send them to school with your child and they can give it to their teacher and I will get it from there. Or Amanda Campau has said she is willing to collect donations thru Venmo. Her Venmo information is @Amanda-Campau-1 I would like to get all donations together thru the end of April so we can get everything ordered. We are needing to raise around 20.00 per kid for a shirt and sign.“

Character Trait May...Reflection

A Note from Ms. Stowell

Elementary Support Teacher

The character trait in the spotlight this month is REFLECTION! Why teach children to be reflective? Being a reflective thinker means to think carefully about your own actions. Learning to be a reflective thinker can benefit students academically, emotionally, and socially. It can help them understand themselves better as a learner and student by reflecting upon their strengths and weaknesses. The trait is helpful to understand themselves emotionally and socially with peer relationships by recognizing their ability to show self control, be empathetic and kind to others as classmates and being part of the school community. Learning to be a reflective thinker gives opportunity for students to self assess their progress by applying other character traits too such as MINDFULNESS, RESPECT, RESPONSIBILITY, and GRIT. This process allows one to take ownership and personal responsibility for not only their daily actions but their overall education. Our Roosevelt Tigers are being introduced to activities that will help them learn practical character building life skills that will lead to making positive choices and personal success. Below you will find a few of my favorites… enjoy!

Tiger, Tiger is it True? by Byron Katie

This Months Lunch Menu

As food supply chain issues continue to be problematic in sticking to a menu, please note lunch options may vary day by day. We will do our best to communicate changes.

Important Reminder: Pedestrian Safety

Please be sure to respect the safety of staff and students while crossing the street. Our crossing guard, Mr. Doug, has had several issues with parents violating the law and neglecting safety near the crosswalk.

Parents, please DO NOT cross the street outside of the designated crosswalk. Mr. Doug can help you cross Lyndon safely. We need your partnership in keeping everyone safe!!

Join the PTA

Our PTA is looking for your support! They are a dynamic group of parents that work tirelessly to ensure our students, staff and school have what they need and have a great time throughout the year. Join our team of dedicated parents, click the link below. Please find our PTA yearlong calendar attached as well.

Please feel free to contact our president Jessica Ecker with any questions, pta4roosevelt@gmail.com. Mrs. Ecker is a wealth of knowledge.

Free and Reduced Meal Application

While all LPS enrolled students will receive meals at no cost this coming school year, we encourage all families to fill out the Free and Reduced Meal Application every year. This application is critical in determining the amount of funding our district receives from a variety of State and Federal supplemental programs. Please visit the LPS website, go to the Departments tab, and find the Food Service link. Take the time to fill it out today!
