Texas TSA State Officer Candidates
2018-2019
Below are your candidates for the 2018-2019 Texas TSA State Officer Team
Sergeant At Arms
Mary Katherine Smith I would like to be an officer for the Texas Technology Student Association because it allows me an outlet to use and better my leadership abilities. I strongly believe in all that this association stands for as well as all it does for its members. It would be an honor to be given the opportunity to be involved in a leadership position to be able to serve my fellow members and help improve TSA as a club and a family. I am a hard working, dedicated and innovative individual and I would always put TSA first in all my decisions. I really hope to be serving you in the upcoming year. | Arcelia Villalon Hello Texas TSA!! My name is Arcelia Villalon, I am a junior attending Rivera Early College High School in Brownsville, Texas and it would be an honor to be your next Texas TSA Sergeant-at-Arms. This is my third, amazing year in TSA and it has been an astounding experience. I am involved in many clubs and organizations such as: being Chapter President in BPA, Leader in the Student Athletic Trainers Program, a proud member of Upward Bound, and Powerlifting. Ever since I joined TSA my freshman year, my chapter has grown and prospered from what it was before. I have worked countless hours on projects for competition and my chapter knows that when I work on something, I will dedicate myself to it. TSA has opened up many doors for opportunity for me and I would really like to spread that to many other people. I am an overall outstanding person, and that itself is just not my personality. I love to help others when it comes to TSA and my community as well. All in all, I have the potential to be State Sergeant-at-Arms and it would be a dream come true to be part of your TSA Office. |

Reporter
Praise Amaechi Hello Texas TSA, my name is Praise Amaechi and I want to serve as your 2018-2019 Texas TSA Reporter. I have been in TSA since middle school and have been a dedicated member who has participated in many competitions ranging from Catapult Design to Biotechnology Design. TSA has not only fostered my interest in medicine but also opened numerous doors for me. My passion for TSA encouraged me to be on my chapter’s leadership team which has increased my motivation to move into entrepreneurship. As an entrepreneur, I have successfully established “fore,” in efforts to promote anti-deforestation. Additionally, I currently serve as a PR rep for a thriving social media brand, “vParli." By living in Houston, one of the most diverse cities in Texas, and using the connections I have made through my entrepreneurial endeavors, I can reach more potential chapters because many schools in the greater Houston area don’t include TSA chapters. Through my reporting skills, I can take advantage of Houston’s diversity and size by inspiring schools everywhere to create new chapters. I plan on informing as many schools about the benefits of our organization so they may one day experience what I experienced. | Jenasys Gomez My name is Jenasys Gomez, I am a junior at Tuloso Midway High School, and I joined TSA this year. Although it’s my first year I have quickly become invested in the organization and what it stands for.Technology has become so advanced leading the people of our society to become technology driven. TSA allows us to stay in-synch with the growth of technology and the future of our advanced world. It’s an organization that shows you the aspects of technology and how it contributes to our everyday lives. My sophomore year a friend of mine who was in TSA was competing in fashion design. Listening to her talk about TSA sparked my interest and I knew I would be joining the following year. I have been designing clothes since I was little, but they were always silly little sketches. Now I can proudly say my silly little sketches are becoming a reality with the help of technology. I want to be a TSA state officer because I want to encourage people to be their very best and help them turn what was once their silly little sketches into a reality and show them success is within reach. | Kylie Marvis Whether it's completing events, competing in onsite competitions, or conducting community service. TSA serves as an intense learning curve for students. Hey TSA Texas, my name is Kylie Mavris, and I’m candidate for Texas TSA's reporter. I’m an 8th grader, attending Briscoe Junior High, on my 2nd year of TSA, and still in utter awe over this organization. With its capability to build students time management skills, leadership qualities, and intellect while still pertaining to such a wide variety of interests. When I first joined, I found myself captivated with the program, and longed to be an officer to benefit my peers. At that moment I decided to build my foundation in leadership. I studied qualities of leaders, analyzed communication skills, and took leadership courses. I attended the leadership conference at state last year while also taking part in the leadership seminar at the national TSA conference. There is where my proficiency in Leadership hit a peak. At Briscoe I currently serve as the president of two of our major organizations; NJHS and TSA. I have many plans that could benefit Texas TSA including; increasing communication among chapters, advertising the organization, and encouraging more students to join. |

Alyssa Olvera Howdy Texas TSA, my name is Alyssa Olvera and I'm going to be running for your 2018-2019 State Reporter! A little about me, I compete in photographic technology and problems in biotechnology. I love problem solving, have a passion for photography and love getting to meet new people. I’ve worked alongside the officers for about two years as a state leadership team member and loved it! I loved getting to know everyone at the Kerrville conference and loved working alongside the state team! I would love the opportunity to do this again but as an officer this upcoming year. I wish everyone the best of luck in their competitions and can’t wait to meet you all in April! :) | Ward Sakeik Hello Texas TSA, my name is Ward Sakeik and I am running to be your 2018-2019 reporter. I am currently a sophomore at Dr. Ralph H. Poteet High School in Mesquite, TX. I have been in TSA for 2 years. My family and my teacher have encouraged me to join TSA because they believed in me and never doubted me in any way. My favorite competitive event is the photography technology event. I love to tell a story with my pictures and to have the opportunity to share my work with others is a such a blessing. Other activities I enjoy doing is volunteering work, photography, editing, and reading. In the future I would like to attend Texas A&M Commerce and major in Photojournalism. I like to learning about new places and people from all around the world and being able to capture the special moments sparks every story. | Carly Snyder Hello Texas TSA! My name is Carly Snyder, and I am running to be your next Texas TSA Reporter. I’m currently a sophomore at Longview High School, yet my influential TSA experience dates back to middle school. Being a shy seventh-grader, scared to step out of my comfort zone, quickly changed when I joined a newly founded TSA Chapter. I was able to find mentors that would later inspire me to try speaking events, including a nationally placing Chapter Team. When I attended my first state competition I met state officers, whose impressive leadership skills encouraged me to find myself in a leadership position. With the help of TSA, I found my leadership capabilities, as well as my passion for public speaking. Meanwhile, I gained an inspiring tapestry of 37,000 Texas TSA members, who are like a family to me, even 3 years later. If elected, it would be my goal and honor to not only inspire others to step out of their comfort zones, but also share the warm welcoming Texas TSA has shared with me. I’m beyond excited to meet all of you at our new TSA home in Fort Worth this April! See y'all soon! |

Treasurer
Isaac Brigham Thank you, Texas TSA! My name is Isaac Brigham and I am running to be your next Texas TSA State Treasurer! I am currently enrolled as a junior at East Early College High School in Houston, although I have been an active participant in TSA going on five outstanding years. I have committed myself wholly to the wonderful organization that is Texas TSA; whether that was learning essential skills at one of the many memorable Kerrville leadership camps or by competing with my fellow members at the remarkable national conventions. Yet my proudest accomplishment occurred at last year's state conference where I became the runner-up for the Texas TSA position of Sergeant-At-Arms. Unfortunately, I was unable to attain that position but I am more than grateful for the wonderful experience and lessons I gained from the campaign. In the ensuing year, I took the memories of that humbling loss and have turned it into fuel for this year's election. I am now the Chapter President in my TSA region and have qualified for the TSA National Honor Society. Help me Texas TSA prove to you that I have not only improved both as a leader and a learner but that I am the right man for this position! Thank you and see you in Fort Worth! | Ayaan Momin Andy Hertzfeld with Macintosh, Chad Hurley with YouTube, Salman Khan with Khan Academy, these ingenious individuals created the most revolutionary products, it not unequivocal that they all started their journey at the Technology Student Association. I joined TSA because of its ability to inspire, and ignite interest in students for STEM. Hello Texas TSA, My name is Ayaan Momin, and I am running to be your next Treasurer. I am currently a Junior attending Engineering and Technologies Academy at Theodore Roosevelt High School in San Antonio. The reason I believe that I'm the right candidate for Treasurer, is because of my experience with managing finances. With my friends, this year, I started a business, creating a sustainable clothing brand, this experience allowed to gain a multitude of skills in finance and management. Additionally I co-Founded the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Launch Entrepreneurship program at my school, allowing me to help students in my school develop new businesses. I tend to focus most of my energy around fiscal matters and TSA , but when I’m not doing so I love to play Soccer and hang-out with my friends. Thank you, I can't wait to meet y’all at the State Conference, Good Luck! | Stefanie Thompson Hi Texas TSA! My name is Stefanie Thompson and I am a junior from Veterans Memorial Early College High School in Brownsville, Tx. I am excited to say I will be running for Treasurer this 2018-2019 school year. I am currently part of the Leadership Team and compete in VEX and Animatronics. Besides being an active TSA member and serving as my chapter's co-president, I am in the National Honor Society, AP Physics club and enjoying dancing during any spare time. I hope to continue serving this great organization as your TSA State Treasurer. |

Heidi Shwaiki Hey Texas TSA! My name is Heidi Shwaiki and I am a freshman attending Lamar Consolidated High School. This is my third year involved in TSA, and since the beginning, it never ceased to astonish me. I believe that when you receive, you must give back. This is one of the many reasons why I am running for state secretary. TSA gives all members, including I, infinite chances to strive to achieve greater opportunities to define our future. This is why I want to give back to TSA by being responsible for one of the most important positions as secretary. A secretary has to have certain skills including organization, superb writing skills, responsibility, and dedication. These are all qualities that I possess and can't wait to use toward the benefits for the TSA organization. Save your questions for April! I'll be open to any and every one! Best of wishes, your next Texas TSA Secretary, Heidi Shwaiki! | Clara Whelan Howdy Texas TSA, my name is Clara Whelan, I’m a sophomore at Foster High School in Richmond, Texas, and I’m running to be your next state secretary! I joined TSA three years ago not knowing I would develop such a persistent love and passion for STEM and all that it encompasses. This organization has allowed for me to pursue various interests of mine and partake in leadership roles head-on. I’ve been president of my chapter for two years now and it has been an amazing experience and one that I’m so thankful for. Through TSA I’ve met so many outstanding and inspiring individuals, from within my own chapter and other chapters around the state. I’ve certainly developed a love for this remarkable association. I would love to further my involvement with Texas TSA and make a positive impact on this organization that has done so much for me, and will continue to do for me. I will do everything in my power to not only whole-heartedly fulfill the duties of secretary, but to also be a strong advocate for TSA and the opportunities available through it. Best of luck on your events and I’ll see you in Fort Worth! |

Vice President
Jamal Mkatte Hello, my name is Jamal Mkatte, and I am a junior at Harmony School of Innovation High in Sugar Land, Texas, near Houston. I have been in TSA for 4 years and am excited to be taking this opportunity to run for state office and have a direct impact on the Texas TSA chapter teams. Since I first joined TSA, I've always admired those who have worked hard behind the scenes to ensure that the organization that I have grown to love and enjoy runs smoothly. Growing up, just being a part of something has never been enough me. I’ve always aspired to be in the decision-making positions in order to make a difference; not just in the organization, but also in regards to the community and people in it. This is what I hope to also do for Texas TSA — be a difference maker for not only the organization but the members around me as well. | Andrew Phillips Howdy Texas TSA! My name is Andrew Phillips from George Ranch High School in Richmond, Texas. I’m proud that this is my third year being a part of the TSA family. Through TSA, my understanding of all types of competitive events, not just those targeting technology, has grown tremendously. I previously had no clue how to code, storyboard, or make a portfolio; but now I have learned these skills thanks to active participation in TSA. For 2017-18, I was given the honor of serving on your Texas TSA State Leadership Team which continued the development of my leadership skills. I am not new to leadership though, as I have served in multiple leadership positions within my school and community. I have been Senior Patrol Leader of my Boy Scout troop, Vice Chief of Service for my Order of the Arrow Chapter, Vice-President and President of my JH TSA chapter, Vice-President and now President of my High School TSA chapter, Vice-President of NJHS, Student Council Representative, Naturalist at the zoo, and Historical Interpreter at a living-history park. I value TSA because it brings students with diverse interests and skills together to create, invent, and problem-solve. I am excited to succeed together. | Adam Sigala Ever since my first chapter meeting, TSA has pushed me to be a better leader. Had I never joined TSA, I would not be the same person that I am today, I would not have met many of amazing people that I have, and I would not have made the memories that I cherish to this day. I have always tried my best to give back to the organization that I love so much, but still I feel that I haven't given TSA as much as TSA has given me. I want to do whatever I can to improve TSA, and I feel that the best way for me to do that is with a state officer position. |

Ever since my first chapter meeting, TSA has pushed me to be a better leader.

Ammar Dharani Hello, Texas TSA! My name is Ammar Dharani and I am running to be your next State President. I am a junior attending Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas. Ever since I received a Lego Mindstorms robot kit on my 6th birthday, I have always been passionate about engineering and problem solving. Once I found out that there was a TSA chapter at my high school, I quickly joined. Since then, my life has drastically changed as the organization has continuously presented me with new opportunities to develop key STEM skills, connect with some of my best friends, and grow as an individual. I have tirelessly committed myself to this great organization, and I believe it is a privilege and responsibility to continue the enduring legacy previous members and advisors have left on this organization. If elected to this position, I would like to focus my efforts into integrating more TSA events throughout the year—like hackathons and community outreach events—and encouraging greater alumni networking to provide mentors for TSA members. In addition, I would help inspire you to follow your dreams and develop crucial leadership and STEM skills. Together we can transform Texas TSA. Thank you, see you at State! | Aliyah Efotte Hey Texas TSA! My name is Aliyah Efotte and I am a sophomore at Cypress Ranch HS in Houston. This will be my 4th year as part of this wonderful organization. As time moves on, my love for it grows deeper. TSA has played a major role in my life. I've not only had the opportunity of serving on our state leadership team, but I’ve also made countless friends along the way. From sinking in cardboard boats in Kerrville to stressing over LEAP resumes in hotels, this organization has gifted me with lifelong memories. TSA has helped me strengthen my leadership and communication skills, and I would like to take that a step further by running to be your state president. We have been gifted with a great opportunity to grow our mighty delegation in a brand new city. Moving to Ft. Worth marks a new chapter in our history and such a milestone deserves a team of dedicated leaders who will work tirelessly to make our transition fun and memorable. If I'm elected, I will bring forth my best ideas, utilize my experience, and represent TSA in the best light possible. Thank you and see you in Ft.Worth! |

Charisma Gajula Hey there Texas TSA! My name is Charisma Gajula, I am a rising junior and a proud member of a Technology Student Association chapter in South Texas. Like many members of this amazingly hospitable organization, I was drawn to TSA by my love of engineering and robotics, but what I've also been fortunate enough to discover and take on during my time as a member is the leadership challenge that accompanies this collaborative endeavor. My experience as a co-president in my chapter has taught me the importance of constant improvement and innovation in our community, and I believe the key to any worthwhile enterprise lies in teamwork and bridging the gaps between individuals to create a network of informed and motivated people. It is with great passion and enthusiasm that I seek the office of president of Texas TSA. I believe that together we can work to implement a vision for the Technology Student Association that goes beyond our limitations and redefines the boundaries of excellence. | Ejehi Ihnionkhan Hello Texas TSA! My name is Ejehi Ihionkhan, and I am running to be your next Texas TSA President. I am a junior at Longview High School in Longview, Texas, and this is my fourth year in TSA. This organization has been a defining factor in my life thus far by enabling me to meet inspiring individuals from around the country and spearheading me towards success in all of my future endeavors. This organization has provided me, and all of its members, with a safe haven by encouraging our diversity in background and thought. However, the best thing TSA has done for me is driving me out of my comfort zone and cultivating the leadership qualities that I had already possessed but had been too scared to utilize. With 4 years of leadership on the chapter and regional levels, initiation of a chapter fundraiser that has grossed $10,000, and a National Chapter Team Championship Title all under my belt, I know I am capable to serve all of you with diligence and determination. Together, I hope to continue growing the wonderful legacy of Texas TSA and molding the leaders of tomorrow. Vote Ejehi Ihionkhan for Texas TSA President! |
